Maybe you're thinkin' of when you saw the trailer? It came out in theatres summer-fall of 1979. Or maybe a test screening?

Wow, tough to say, because I don't keep count. I probably have seen Gone With The Wind 15 times, Lord of the Rings (all three) and It's a Wonderful Life at least 10.

TV shows, Once More With Feeling at least 10 times and Smile Time about the same.

And I have no idea how many times I've seen Firefly. Won't admit it even to myself. :)

I'm going to have to go with "Casablanca", like Soupcatcher. When I was a kid (before cable, satellite, etc.), that movie used to be played as the late movie ALL THE TIME. I probably saw it a bazillion times just when it was broadcast on tv. I hadn't seen it on much in the past 15 or so years, though (which is a real shame because, hello - classic), so I bought the VHS back then and have watched it 3-4 times a year since then. My tape is still in amazingly decent shape, considering, so I haven't replaced it with the dvd yet. Soon though.

Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was the only movie we had for the longest time, and as we don't get cable, I watched it A LOT.

Princess Bride is a good one. Another one that gets better with the watching is "Better Off Dead"--funniest move from the 1980's, IMHO.

The Paper. That movie is the best example ever of comic timing. I put it in the other day to find CSI's Gary Dourdan, who it turns out is walking around with dreds in the background of most shots, and discovered that my tape is almost done for. I think it's time I invested in a DVD copy.

I became a reporter in part because that movie made it look like fun. Turns out, not so much.
