OH MY GOD! So, is it true, is Serenity really going to be released on JULY 29th?

Sorry if I repeat post this in a bunch of places. It's just easiest.

So I saw Batman Begins. And it was *awesome*.

The Serenity trailer was attached - I was beside myself. Unfortunately it didn't have as much impact on the audience as one could have hoped for. The volume was quieter as it usually is for trailers. It was the 5th or 6th trailer (and these come after all the product ads too), so people were just wanting the movie to start. But, people did stop talking, and there were a few small laughs at the right moments. So. I'm just pleased it's really out there now!

The trailer was exactly as the current online version, only saying "THIS FALL" at one point and no date.

By the way, this is the Silvercity Riverport theatre in Richmond, BC, Canada.

THANK YOU for sharing this. This is exactly the WV theatre my friend went to, and the one I called.

So my friend isn't crazy. I might drive to Huntington to see the gorram trailer myself!!

I have now confirmed it 4 times with my friend via email. He says he was not confused with a trailer for Stealth. He stands by that he saw July 29th, 2005 attached to the trailer for Serenity, whether we wish to believe it or not.

I am so relieved that someone else has seen this too. Apparently the Marquee theatre in Huntington is the only one who showed this trailer! I'll call them again tomorrow and BEG them to please confirm this.

Maybe they're the only theatre showoing this trailer because it's not supposed to be showed yet.

If this is true, I hope Universal don't get too eager to release this film in July, I really think it will hurt its general public impact. Sure there have been quite a few sold out previews, but these are previews catering for sci-fi fans in the thousands. This doesn't mean that the general public is going to know what it is.

If this is the case, I really hope they keep it in September, I think running it before SG1 and Battlestar will bring in plenty of new fans and really help spread the love.

They can't just release this puppy and expect results based on the fans themselves.

Hell who am I to know, they are the movie people, but it just seems like they might be rushing it a little too much if this is the case.

On the Silvercity website for Ontario, Steath has a release date of July 29, 2005 and Serenity shows as September 30, 2005 still. And while I would like to see it sooner....it may be that the theatre in question made a mistake. But I am keeping my fingers crossed.

"Stupid is as stupid does"....does what exactly??

If this is true I reallly hope Universal is ready to ramp marketing and advertising into high gear really fast. So far there has been very little other than the screenings, which the general public doesn't even know about. They need a 2nd trailer, slightly lengthened, and they need attatched to every movie that shows in every theater. They also need to get more TV time, and do some heavy cross channel advertising for the show going on Sci-Fi. I'd love to see an earlier release, but not at the expense of getting enough awarness generated.

So, my experience in Olympia, Washington was pretty much the same. Small crowd for a 12:30 showing of Batman Begins. Knowing the Serenity trailer was likely to be playing, I was all prepared to whoop and holler... but it would have just been too conspicuous in a theater with only 40ish people. Both the trailer and Batman Begins DID rock, though. BB has the best supporting cast I've seen in a superhero movie, IMHO.

I confirm what GuideWriter says--no 7/29/05 date on the Serenity trailer, but Stealth, which does open 7/29, was also playing. I was specifically aware of this rumor, and was specifically looking for any new information in the trailer. I wish it was true, but the trailer reel before Batman Begins doesn't seem to confirm it.

If you want any slim hope, maybe the distributors in the Pacific Northwest didn't get prints of the same trailer reel as the others who are reporting different things.

And what about this one?

http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=10807
Trailers have aparently been shown with Batman Begins, advertising a July 29th release?

Is it true? And does this mean that the other worldwide release dates will be moved forward?

The first is Miloradell, who was kind enough to offer two tickets to fellow Minnesota Browncoats when two of her friends decided they had something else to do. She seems quite creditable, although I haven't had an association

The second thread is from Static, who's creditability is solid as a rock.

The rest seems to be speculation and possibly a mistake made by the theater in question.

The official Universal web site for Serenity still says September 30.

The IMDb (Internet Movie Database) still says September 30, although Australia gets it September 29. Philistines!

May I suggest that we keep checking the facts and stop spreading rumors?

When Joss Whedon says "Oh, by the way, did I mention the movie release got moved up?" THEN I might believe it.
