CINESCAPE Announces 2002 Genre Literary Competition

New writers to win cash prizes for short story, novel and comic book entries

As part of their ongoing commitment to discovering the next generation of science fiction, fantasy and horror writers, Mania Entertainment, the parent company of CINESCAPE Magazine, has announced the 2002 Genre Literary Competition.

The literary competition follows on the heels of this year’s Genre Screenplay Competition that saw hundreds of entries from the next generation of film writers.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with how the screenplay competition was received,” notes Mania CEO Chip Meyers. “The level of talent demonstrated by the screenplay submissions was above and beyond anything that we could have hoped for. That’s why we’ve decided to create a competition for other writing formats.”

Meyers goes on to note that CINESCAPE is interested in celebrating not just film, but all aspects of genre entertainment.

Because of this, the 2002 Genre Literary Competition, open to all writers, has been divided into three separate categories: short stories, novels and comic books.

Prizes for each category are as follows:

Novels:

• $2,500 (1st place); $1500 (2nd place); $750 (3rd place)

• Article in Cinescape magazine on winners and their novel

• Free 1-year subscription to Cinescape magazine (winner and finalists)

Short Stories:

• $1,000 (1st place); $500 (2nd place); $250 (3rd place)

• Article in Cinescape magazine on winners and their short story

• Free 1-year subscription to Cinescape magazine (winner and finalists)

Comic Books:

• $1,000 (1st place); $500 (2nd place); $250 (3rd place)

• Article in Cinescape magazine on winners and their comic book

• Free 1-year subscription to Cinescape magazine (winner and finalists)
