I live north of Charlotte, and agree with Scott and Google -- take I-85 straight onto I-485. Distance-wise, it may be much the same, but traffic-wise it's much smoother sailing.

yes get on 485 asap, no use going through town if you don't have to. Traffic may be lighter by then, but it's just not worth it. I wish the loop was finished as I'm near where it's supposed to be on the northwest. See you all soon, Safe travels.

Vielen Dank for all the advice! I had a gut feeling that it would be better to skirt the city by getting on 485 as soon as I could, but I wanted to doublecheck to avoid any unforseen problems.
