It's because we so basically accept the notion that the President worries about this nation that any other view is unthinkable. That puts up a huge barrier of disbelief. You would need to be tremendously self-confident in your intellect to buck the perceived wisdom. I don't exactly see a vast group of ppl fitting that description here in the USA, where most ppl are intellectually quite timid. It took prominent statisticians- people whose life's work is measuing error and uncertainty- to point to an alternate reality.

Yeah, I enjoy a good stiff straight drink - no rocks and hold that club soda crap please - now and then. I've also been known to surf the net and surf the shopping cart o'er the 22 once in awhile *and* I do enjoy it. The page of barf was quite a while ago though, but of course you don't remember the rest of the crap that was on that page - selective memory, you sure it's not some sort of brain problem over there?
But that's another matter.

On a slightly lighter note: have you seen Conspiracy Theory with Mel Gibson? It's so close, I'm amazed it even got made (then again, as a MOVIE I suppose it could work for them as a smokescreen; people might view it as entertainment, you know, it's not like anything like that could ever actually happen...).
