In a poll at Boxofficemojo.com, Serenity made it to be the second most anticipated film of 2005;

That's good news! Even people around here are starting to respond positivly when I ask them if they're gonna go see Serenity. It used to be 'what?', now it's 'That's that space movie by the Buffy creator, right?', so the word's obviously gettin' out!
But Fantastic Four in ninth place? I woulda thought more people'd wanna see that, too...

I would put Serenity as my first. Although I would like to see Star Wars, I can wait till It is on DVD. I will however be seeing Serenity on opening day.

Which of the movies above it on the list would you have expected to be less anticipated than F4? None that I could see. I'm slightly surprised that BB is more anticipated than WotW. That Cinderella Man ranks so low is partly due to the demographic of folks who vote on Box Office Mojo. And King Kong's low rank may be due in part to the total absence of promotion, to date -- only fans know it's coming.

The poll is now closed, but the site doesn't say when it was closed, nor when it started. Sin City is the highest ranked movie that opened more than a week ago.

Comparing that poll to my personal sense of anticipation @the time I learned of each of these films, about half the high-ranked movies aren't on my must-see list, but the ones that are fall pretty much in the same order as they appear in the poll.

Keep the Shiny Side Up . . . (wutzon) Bowie, "Space Oddity", from "Best" thereof

I can't agreed with you, 'King Kong' is way above 'F4' on my to see list. I saw the Trailer for 'F4' yesterday and was not that impressed. I am sure I could guess the whole movie from it. Plus being a New Zealander I obviously have to side with 'King Kong' because of Peter Jackson. That man hasn't made one movie that I didn't like. Well Heavenly Creatures still is a mystery to me, but it is good.

That poll is pretty scewed though. I know that there was a post here about it and I heard there were posts on whedonesque and elsewhere. So really we mobilized and stuffed the ballots pretty good. Just tells me our fans are more active.

I just think it's great that Serenity got so high up. I mean right beneath Star Wars? We beat Hitchhiker's and they've been waitin 25 years for a movie. I'm so proud I think I might cry. sniff.

...and we will call it...this land...
