I ain't gonna shoot ya, maugwai. If that's the way you like to read them, then that's just fine. It's the fact that they're changing how C.S. Lewis wanted them that bothers me.

This may be the first time Hollywood has been more respectful to an author's work than the literary community. Imagine if this sets a precident.

I had a very similar experience. My mom read to us all the time (even through high school ), and one of the first books I remember is The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. We read the Narnia books together a lot, and I read them over and over on my own. When I graduated from college my present to myself was my own Narnia set.

I had somehow missed out on this movie being made. The trailer looks amazing, I got very excited seeing Aslan, and I'm reassured by the fact that Weta is doing the effects. (It was nice to see all the familiar faces in that clip.)

Looks like it's time to reread the books again!
