Until last night I could only claim one convert to the 'verse, that being my son. But...last night I invited a friend and his gf over for dinner and a movie, Firefly style. No, we didn't have protein in all the colors of the rainbow. We had some of my dynamite lasagna, but later we sat down to view "Serenity." I had told him a bit about it before, and he had heard about it but never saw it, and she had never even heard about it. Needless to say, they both enjoyed it a lot. We talked about it for at least an hour afterwards and they will be coming over to see some more eps as soon as our schedules permit. They both work weird hours so I don't know when that will be. Neither of them have a dvd player so probably won't be buying Firefly for a while, but after I told them how good all the other eps were, and the fact there are extra features and good Joss and cast commentaries on many of them, they kept looking at each other and saying "We've got to get a dvd player soon, don't you think?" Also, I'm still waiting to hear from an internet friend in Australia, who I finally convinced to get the dvds. Last time I heard he had watched the first two discs, but said he did not want to comment on it until he had watched the rest.

That could be me...really, it could. However, I guess I should tell people a little about me as I have spent the last month and a half, posting images and on threads as if I owned the joint. Mostly I keep to myself outside any circle of interest. For example, I roleplay, and the people I roleplay with, I get to know very well and spend alot of time with them. This led to my discovery of Firefly back in July. Wow! It was as if Joss Whedon had read my mind and made a show just for me. (Okay, I am a bit egocentric, but then again, who ain't? LOL) So now Firefly, and soon Serenity, is my newest circle, and on September 25th I will begin to meet with other fans at our Cincinnati Shindig, which if your in the area, send me a wave, and I'll get you the coordinates! Like Gojiro, he'll be there, and I suspect he and I will be discussing the nuances of manipulating images with Paint/Photo Shop! I am constantly amazed by his work, so check it out if you haven't yet. I am also dumbfounded and almost flabbergasted by the number of Firefly fans, not only here, but around the Earth-that-was! Firefly fans, for a large percentage of you, put other Sci-Fi fans to shame. That inspired me to do what I do here. Everyone is respectful, yet honest, and pretty much intelligent (I can not say the same for many of my former Trekker aquaintences) and everyone of you should take pride in being the best gorram bunch of fans in the 'Verse...bar none! Thanks for being loyal, and thanks for making me feel a part of something special...especially you, Joss Whedon, without whom, the rest of us Sci-Fi geeks might still be lost in a galaxy far far away or stuck on a 5 year mission. I'm sitting here watching the episode again, and there comes a point where I say...." hey, wait just a minute". While I'm sure many smarter folk than I figured this out LONG ago, it just dawned on me. Duh. The plan was simple. Mal and Zoe get aboard the train, work their way back to the 5th car, find the cargo,lower Jayne down onto the train for some [i]thrilling heroics[/i], and as Kaylee puts it... " we bundle up the booty, and haul'em all back up." Simple. Only 1 small problem. Why leave the door to the luggage car cracked open and rigged w/ a smoke screen canister if you're not planning to go back out that way? Doors that are left open generaly signal something is a miss. If an Fed comes back and sees the door closed... no big deal - it's a closed door to a luggage car. If he see's it cracked open and can hear a ruckus going on inside.... that's a clue that something's up. Here's an idea. Close the door and THEN rig it w/ the smoke screen canister! Now, I understand some minor flaws in the story line are sometimes needed to advance the rest of the story. Before B,C,and D occur, A must happen. And granted,per the commentary, this is the ep that they had to write over just 1 WEEKEND and have it ready by the time the suits come in Monday morning. So, I guess I could cut them SOME slack. I mean, why quibble about such small things as that when a better question would be..how'd they clean Crow out from the engine intake before they left the world ? Blech!
