G3 2007
Sunday, 08 April 2007 11:37:16

On Thursday night I was lucky enough to be at G3 at Massey Hall (4th row center!) with Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert and John Petrucci. The concert started at 8:00 PM. Paul opened and played lots of Racer X songs including Scarified and Green Tinted Sixties Mind as well as Downt To Mexico, Rusty Old Boat and Skit Scat Waa. Paul was also totally wasted but it didn't really affect his guitar playing so it's no big deal. He is also amazingly tall and skinny. His wife played keyboards. Petrucci was on after the intermission (during which I bought a Paul Gilbert hoodie, Satriani wristband and G307 T-shirt). There were alot of Dream Theatre fans there so Petrucci was a big hit. Dave LeRue was on bass for the rest of the concert and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theatre) played drums for John. Portnoy was hilarious and started tossing his sticks to the booth and playing with one hand, the people in the booth then flipped the sticks back adn he'd do it again well you get the picture, needles to say it was pretty impressive. Satch was on after the next intermission. He was practically righ in front of us first off which was really cool. He played alot (more than the other two) so I kinda lost track of what he played. It was Satch so you can only expect perfection. He had his white guitar, his red guitar and... his chrome guitar! That's right, chrome, so you can only imagine how bright it was in there with all the lights bouncing off his guitar and his head. While Satriani played his last song, John and Paul joined in. Then together they played a Jimi Hendrix medley (Foxy Lady, Purple Haze, Voodoo Child). For the whole last bit of the concert (all 3 of them together) the whole first floor was standing and jumping and clapping, we were all pretty pumped up. After the medley they played I'm Going Down and a Stones song in honour of Keith Richards snorting his father's ashes on stage (they also had Paul introduce the song, lol). Paul pulled out his drill around the end which was damn cool and he also did this tapping thing at the end which I couldn't really see so my dad threw me up in the air, that got me a pretty cool look from Satch so I'm happy. There were lots of picks and drumsticks thrown to the audience and Gilbert joked about throwing the drill. So far there are two videos and one slideshow on YouTube here:

You know you've hit a rut when....

... you spend a Saturday night/Sunday morning c leaning up your own mother's alcohol induced vomit. Seriously, this is why I love uni. I have FRIENDS there. And so am able to go out and get drunk like normal eighteen-almost nighteen year olds. It's two weeks into the Easter holidays and I haven't been round town once. Granted, I have a pretty good reason to have no friends. I tend to not like people who say they are my friend and then jump on my boyfriend the day after he dumps me. I tend not to like people who sleep with my best friends boyfriend at the prom and are now carrying his baby. I tend not to like people who encourage this behaviour. But still, it's undeniable that my entire gang of friends from sixthform now pretty much hate me. I got 16 free tickets for this night club Fusion, for my approaching birthsay. I have three friends to give them to. Four if you count my sister. Six if you count two of my friends who hate Fusion. Seven if you count this guy I don't really like but hangs about with my mates anyway. Yes, my birthday is going to be banging. Alls I can say is, roll on April the 23r, I don't care if it means exams and revision, I WANT TO GO BACK TO UNI!!! Thank you for listening. P.S. In Fic news, I am currently writing the second chapter of a longish S/K fic that follows my fic The Most Important Job. It's called Job Satisfaction. And I may be needing a beta at some point. That is all.
