Hardpan Brainpan
Friday, 08 January 2010 06:23:37

This accurately describes the state of my brain lately. And the state of my (writers block), sad to say, on one little tiny part of Albatross, for those who saw the first of that more than a month ago and wondered where it got to. I've got a whole bunch ready, I've just got to get that part out of the way. In the meantime, if you're in a mood for humor, Ice Cream Social is up. According to Webster's (y'all love them fancy books where they got the words in 'em, don't ya?) HARDPAN(n): 1. A layer of hard subsoil or clay. Also called caliche. 2. Hard, unbroken ground. 3. A foundation; bedrock. Yeah, so all of the above should be pretty satisfactory to say that although BEFORE my beloved brainpan fit definition #2, I've actually posted something so I treat the dry calcified grey matter as #3, a foundation, the AFTER stage of my miraculous As Seen On TV non-procrastination diet. As in golf, it's always harder to hit from hardpan. But I'mma gonna do it. So stay tuned, sportsfans, because there's more to see.

A late happy new year!

I am so far out in the middle of gorram nowhere that I am just now getting internet service up and running! It's like I jumped out of the sky and landed on my ass in the middle of Whitefall. Seriously. I've been fighting with people for a solid month to get internet and phone. My cell phone won't work. The AT & T phone that I bought to use out here because people said they were the only ones that work reliably only works in patches. I might as well be in space... Happily, though, the communications problem has been solved. Now I can relax and enjoy the beautiful country. I do love it. I could settle down if I had a mind to settle somewhere. It's cold and quiet in the Texas hill country tonight. There are deer in my back yard. I could shoot at 'em off my porch but my neighbors probably wouldn't appreciate it. It's 2 am, after all. They definitely wouldn't like it, but they'd understand. And having people understand me is kind of nice for a change! Anyway, hope you and yours are finding the new year prosperous and happy.

Was it Ski?
Friday, 08 January 2010 18:19:12

If you have read my last chapter in the Early Years, the answer is yes...it was Ski, though neither of them remember the other in their future meetings. I mostly added him for two reasons...one to show that he was involved in the war, though not as a Browncoat exactly and just to add a bit of fun to the story to see if you are really reading. This is the only appearance he makes, but I thought it a rather fun little add. As to Jane's quarry...she has always been in love with Mal. Ski and she married simply to save her life, even though she developed feelings later. Something tells me though...it ends well for all involved. I know...her last chapter is already written. Thanks for riding and may 2010 be full of more fan fic adventures from all my favorite authors!!
