Dirty Firefly Dancin'...
Friday, 04 May 2007 03:29:26

Okay, so, you wouldn't believe it if you knew me-knew me, but i am a big geek. As in, with a capital 'G'. So big that i went to see "Dirty Dancing" in theatres this past Tuesday because they (the big "They" we all know and frequently want to kick in the shins until they submit to our Browncoated demands) re-released the movie to theatres in honor of its twenty year anniversary. With little interview thingies before the movie started. Now, why bring this up on a Flan-site? Because the first little interview thingie with the writer/creator of the Dirty Dancing concept said "Did we really think we were making something that would become this? No. This is all possible because of the fans..." Let me repeat: "THIS IS ALL POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF THE FANS." And i thought, woah. In twenty years, i could be sitting in another theatre watching the twentieth anniversary re-release of the Big Damn Heroes. Fans DO have powers! If we didn't, how'd we get here? If we didn't, how did THEY get THERE? (They, in this case, being the people we are fans OF...i know, i keep switching definitions of 'They'...sorry...) And then i remembered sitting in the theatre for "Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights" (again, GEEK, okay? i know...) and i saw that someone made THAT movie...and if that can happen, then why does anyone lose faith that we can't get more of this 'verse? I mean, let's face it: dancing is fun and all, but men who stand up against the Alliance are hot. So...i guess this turned into a pep talk, but i felt i had to share. So, to recap: me = big Geek; "Dirty Dancing" in theatres renewed hope that we have the power to at least bring the BDM back to screens; if "Dirty Dancing" got a sequel, what the hell makes us think we can't?

5 Years And Counting!!
Friday, 04 May 2007 08:56:10

Well, let's not beat 'round the bush... IT'S OUR ANNIVERSARY TODAY!!! 5 yrs of a very lovely marriage to a man that I love with all my heart. Mr. Jonathan Lee Johnson has been pretty much the best thing to ever happen in my life. I know I don't talk much 'bout him, but I'm not one for gushing. Just think of the man as a saint, cause look what he has to deal with! Pity him yet, lol! We've been together for almost 7yrs now and through all the good, bad, and wicked ugly he has been there. I couldn't ask for a more loving husband and friend. Ok, now that y'all are making good use out of your barf bags... This anniversary has been a bit tough. Not to over complain, but money has been tight, very tight so we aren't gonna have the anniversary we wanted. But ya know what, as long as we just have each other (as cheesy as that sounds) I'm fine with that. Though as a huge surprise for me Jon got me the greatest present, tickets for us to see Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Puddle of Mudd and POD at RIT! I screamed really loud when he told me, I mean really loud, lol! Breaking Benjamin is the love of my musical life (as some of you well know) and I've wanted to see them in concert forever. I was so happy I get to see my fav band with my fav person. How cool is that?? Well, I'm happy today, just crazy happy! I'm such a girl when it comes to anniversaries. Not to mention wicked geeky, but don't care, hehe! Well, hope y'all are having your own wonderful days, I'm gonna go enjoy this one to it's fullest! Luv y'all!!

Plants are problematic.
Friday, 04 May 2007 13:24:11

So, a couple of days ago, two of my flat mates and their friends decided, at 3 am, that it would be fun to rip up a bunch of plants from the near by Leazes Park and bring them back to our flat. Fun as it is to be woken at 3 am, and then find soil in the toaster the next morning when I'm in a rush to eat breakfast, it really does not compare to getting a letter sayin me and all my flatmates are required to attend a meeting about the theft of 6 plants. Ach. I can deal with still finding leaves in my crockery, but if I get some kind of warning or fine for this, I will be SEHR annoyed.:pissed: Rant over. :crap: xxx

Sick of High Paid Teachers?
Friday, 04 May 2007 15:54:44

SICK OF THOSE HIGH PAID TEACHERS > > I, for one, am sick and tired of those high paid teachers. Their hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work nine or ten months a year! It's time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do. . >baby-sit! We can get that for less than minimum wage. That's right. . . I would give them $3.00 dollars an hour and only the hours they worked, not any of that silly planning time. > > That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 AM to 3:30 PM with 45 min. off for lunch). Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children. Now, how many do they teach in a day. . maybe 30? So that's 19.5 X 30 = $585 .00 a day. But remember they only work 180 days a year! I'm not going to pay them for any vacations. Let's see. . . that's 585 x 180 = $105,300.00 (Hold on! My calculator must need batteries!) > > What about those special teachers or the ones with master's degrees? Well, we could pay them minimum wage just to be fair. Round it off to $7.00 an hour. That would be $7 times 6-1/2 hours times 30 children times 180 days = $245,700.00 per year. > > Wait a minute, there is something wrong here! There sure is, duh! And you know - I have 40+ students in many of my classes!!

The only revolutionary worms are the ones gotten by the early bird
Friday, 04 May 2007 16:17:21

He is about to lose everything. He tells himself it is a sacrifice, sacred in the eyes of God. But he gets no comfort from this. Would you cut out your own heart and sacrifice it to some pagan god as a final act if you knew the sacrifice would make the heart of someone close beat stronger? How much is too much to give? He reminds himself why he would and could make these sacrifices and how the willingness is a good thing, but it all sounds like a Eulogy to him. "Here lies Fiddler the magnificent, now considerably less magnificent owing to his now being decrepit, cadaverous, and covered in six feet of mud. May his sacrifices lend him shade in hell, or keep him warm in the devil's bosom." *shrugs* All he knows for sure is that as he walks across the threshold, his heart dies, and everything that once matters becomes a dull, ringing memory in the furthest back of his mind. He imagines the moment and can see his eyes grow blurry. A subtle burning in his vision that takes him a few moments to recognize. Tears! He is crying, but to himself, for it was ever the way of ample and magnanimous, nay magnificent, Fiddler to mourn alone. How would he deal with grief? Perhaps he would become a soldier and kill the enemies of strangers, or perhaps he will, as gluttons are want to do on occasion, stuff his face with delightful pastries and that Godsend ambrosia called the donut. But he is thinking ahead of himself. He makes the sacrifice for one important reason: it is important to the other. At the end of the day Fiddler does not deserve to be happy until he sacrifices every ounce of happiness he can muster to make the world of the other better. At that point Fiddler no longer has need of happiness and all is right with the world. The Queens sit on their thrones, the birds take to the skies, and he is in the dirt with the rest of the worms no longer bold enough to reach for the light lest the early bird get him. So the decision is made then. Should we read out a judgment or a eulogy for him? "We the people sentence you, Fiddler the Magnificent Esq., to a life of cold shoulders in the service of one. You shall have no warmth or succor from your peers. You shall sacrifice, forever, your right to that curious tingle you get before the outburst of joy, and the irrepressible smile that assails your face. Since you have shown repeated contempt for the sanctity of the blessed ignorance that the rest of humanity walks under, you shall be burdened with a fog of self loathing that will follow you all the rest of your days. Your sacrifice shall be put to good use and its final effectiveness shall be left in the hands of the other, whether it is used properly or not. Happiness cannot belong to you. You can have no respite from the world, and may God have mercy on your soul." Now Fiddler the Chastised feels much better. All is as it should be. Everything in its place and he is home with the worms. He calls out to them, but blindly, they dig. This is going to be a long life sentence.

New One

Well, I'm late but I'm here. I never heard of Firefly. I went and saw Serenity in the theatre and was hooked. I went back to the theatre and watched it again. Then I heard it was a TV show. I recently watched the series and then went out and bought it. I'm hooked on this show/movie.
