I finally conquered my formatting fears and "A Not-So-Shiny Christmas" made it's belated way into the Blue Sun Room. (Well, okay, I only got over most of my formatting fears. I abandoned the idea of going back to add the Chinese translations popping up when the cursor is placed over the words. Maybe next time!) I consider it a victory getting all three parts posted -- hopefully without too many typos remaining, although it seems like proofreading is a never ending process -- especially when switching formats. Readership dropped slightly from Part I to Part II, and again from Part II to Part III. I'm wondering if this is normal or just because my story didn't hold the readers' interest. (Or because it was well after Christmas when I finally posted! Timing may be everything after all.) I'll have to be more aware of looking at stats like this when I'm reading other fanfic which is posted in segments from now on. I did get some nice comments, especially from Amdobell, Katesfriend, and BlueEyedBrigadier(who has been encouraging from day one!)-- and they all seemed to like it. A mightly good thing, considering I do plan to continue writing new episodes of my beloved series. To those who wanted more (answers, action, whatever), I should mention that my aim is to keep the length and content of my stories to what would fit into a one-hour TV episode. This also means that the underlying big themes will move forward in tantilzing (I hope!) bits and pieces, while the episode's immediate action will follow a regular plot curve. I'm encouraged that the new character, Piera Melathene, worked well and BlueEyedBrigadier wanted to know more about her. She is connected to both Book and River (and therefore, Simon), so I plan on her popping up again. I'm also happy that readers are saying that my characterizations of the BDH are on target. I loved writing the dialog and trying to come up with some memorable lines. Jayne seems to be the easiest character for me to write. (A bit worrisome, that.) I'm comfortable with Book, Kaylee, Zoe, Wash, and River. Inara and Simon are a different story, (figuratively and eventually literally). They are the characters I have the most trouble connecting with, which is why I didn't have much on Simon in "Not-So-Shiny Christmas". Inara was out of the picture in this part of the timeline on Serenity, so I lucked out on that this time. Eventually, I have to deal though. Now, what to write next...WWJWD? That is now the question!

well, no date. No email, no call, no nothing. good thing I am reluctant to give up sole control of the remote anyway. found out the asshole has paid NONE of his share of #2's surgery bill. Color me not even surprised. One of my favorite people in the world, a fellow fffer is not speaking to me. I had an icecream incident involving a (now) broken ice cream scoop, a half gallon box of ice cream and King Kaisa the Kat. He is not speaking to me either. But my mommy bought me a really pretty argylle sweater for $5.00 on clearance sale!

Well, nobody has tried to rip off my latest creation yet. I think I've actually out-weirded any attempt to match the workings of my psyche. Incidentally, this is me writing without the aid of caffeine. Now, the dilemma is whether to stick to a tight small arc or whether to really let rip. The direction this is going in could be limitless, but possibly more amusing for the writer than the reader. Maybe I should use the discipline of the seven chapter layout a la 'Zen', rather than do a 'Cold Comfort' and have a sagging middle plot. Especially since I have another plot-line or two stacking up behind. Of course, this doesn't then preclude the use of said weirdness in a later plot-line. I've come to the conclusion that I am better off following my own goofy star here - I'll leave other folks to the undiluted angst, horror and teenage dilemma. I'm going for something a bit more subtle. ('Cos Jaynefic is well subtle *coughyeahrightcough*) I mean, I can write torture or angst, but I prefer to weave them into a larger picture. And as some readers may know, I can write steamy scenes, but undiluted porn linked with thin characterization is just bad writing to me. So, anyone who does bother reading my stuff will find a nice mixture of humour, action, romance and danger. Of course, I may be moving in a couple of weeks. Which will necessitate being off-line for a while. It may be that I might not return. So I better get my shit together and finish this latest piece. It's not quite the cliff-hanger of some of my other offerings, but it's still a mighty fine dilemma I've left our boy in. Been reading a few threads about the how and why of fic writing, OC's and Mary-Sues, canon pairing and pet peeves. I've come to the conclusion that the reason my stuff is not rapturously received is because I don't toe the party line on 'accepted' Jayne pairings. Well, tough shit, guys. I happen to think that a lot of the stuff I have read is just thinly disguised MS-fic at best, and sad teen-diary wishfic at worst. (Puts claws away again.) Still, I'll play nice. Just there's no rayne gonna fall here, dig?

SOLAN

After having thought that I'm over the main hump as far as that fellow browncoat is concerned I find myself in a very odd position: While I'm past all the pain and pseudo-suffering I feel as if there's something that hasn't been said. And as long as that's the case I know that sooner or later I'm prone to do something stupid - like fight for the whole relationship thing. I'm an odd nut like that. As long as I can't understand the reasons I get odd thoughts like that. For the time being all I can do is try and keep myself from doing anything. But that at best only buys some time. Maybe time is what's important though. In any case it's not a matter of choice anyway, so I'll inevitably see where this takes me. Either way. Just letting you know because I can. And otherwise enjoying everyone's company. *g*

Mornin Fellow Browncoats :) Just a little log update here. Saturday evening I had a mini FF marathon at my house.Invited were my oldest sister and my middle sister ( I have 3 sisters and a younger brother. I'm the oldest of the 5) Anyhoo, my sisters came and although my older sister has seen FF/Serenity she jumped at the chance to see them again. My middle sister has never seen any FF/Serenity. My middle sister (J) said she had only an hour before she had to get back home. This was depressing but I slipped in disk 2 anyway. Let me tell you that I haven't seen "J" laugh like that in a long while. " I didn't know this was a comedy?" she said.She'd never even heard of the show (seems I've heard that before) She stayed for all 4 eps on that disk ( well over the hour she'd allowed herself) and she left with a smile on her face. My older sister enjoyed the show too. They said when I was ready to continue to disk 3 give them a call. Well with the busy lives that we lead it may be a little while. But it won't be long before I'll be warming up the 'ol dvd player for another round of FF. This time "J" wants to bring her hubby and "V" my older sister will bring her daughter and her daughters bf. Looks like I'll have to watch disk 2 again, but that's alright with me :wink: Z
