Good morning my fellow browncoat friends. Well just felt like it was time for a little blog update. First up has anyone seen the Star Wars special playing on the History Channel this week? Our master of Firefly is on there. I’ve caught only part of this show but Joss himself makes an appearance and has several comments about SW. Maybe he can talk Mr. Lucas into helping out with some backing of bringing back a little space project he started in 02. Second thing on the menu is, I’ve started recruiting for several more browncoats down at work. Up until now it’s been mostly family I’ve tried to bring into the fold. I’ve had some success and everyone I’ve show the series to likes it, but not everyone “gets it”. Anyway a fellow co-worker down at the factor and I have been talking about movies and tv shows for a while. He brought me a movie to bring home to watch. Well since he opened the door I responded with bringing him my loaner copy of FF, we’ll see what happens. I’ve also talked with another co-worker that is newly employed by the company. He said he’s seen the BDM Serenity and loved it. He hadn’t heard of Firefly though so guess who my next target is? That’s about it for now. Soon as the wife gets home from work today (bout 11am) we are going to the movies to see Pirates of the Caribbean-At Worlds End. Hope it’s good. List of resent things of goodiness: 1) movie “The Island” very good 2) series “Band of Brothers” on the History channel, really enjoyed this 3) American Idol, over for this season. So, [i]Waitress[/i] finally came to my local movie theater, and I went to see it last night, and [b]I loved it![/b] It's quirky, funny, sad, and sexy with a happy ending. The entire cast was great! The writing was great! The direction was great! If this was a Fox TV show, it would have been canceled after the first two episodes! Keri Russell was amazing! From beginning to end, she has you with her for the entire movie. She'll be winning awards for this role. The way she dreads this baby that she carries throughout the film makes the ending delightful like the pies she makes throughout the film. And, I love what she does with the moon pie at the end, which has nothing to do with making pies, btw. Andy Griffith stole every scene he was in! He's so funny as the crotchety, old horn dog who owns the pie shop, but you still love him from beginning to end. And, when I say he's a "horn dog", I mean he only sounds that way when he talks about his promiscuous past. He'll say something, and you'll laugh and say to yourself, "Did [i]the[/i] Andy Griffith really say that??" Yes, he did! Watching him act in this film was worth the $7.00 ticket alone. (That's a student discount, btw.) And Nathan... I can't comment on this movie on FFF.net without saying something about [i]El Capitán[/i]! Yes, he is wonderful in this film! I know I've said this before, but I enjoy watching him act b/c he is always in character and he's a great listener. ("Listener" in acting terms means that he doesn't drop character in the slightest while other people are speaking; he [i]reacts[/i], which is how you become known as a great actor.) And his character is the nervous type in the beginning of the film, to the sexy doctor, to... well, I'm not going to be like other critics and spoil the ending. So, yes. As soon as this film hits the theater near you, RUN OVER THERE AND WATCH IT!

Its 7 am im sleepish.... ive been writing..... i have a short story. A TOAST TO THE DAY “A toast to the day!” The cry rang out through the crowded bar. The other patrons laugh and toast. I laugh and take a seat to the bar. ‘What day? I wonder, ‘Did a holiday sneak up on me? Did something happen this morning? Are these drunks crazy?’ I pay no heed to the call for toast. The bartender smiles at me with knowing blue eyes and pours me a drink before I can order. ‘Weird place’ I think as I knock back the drink. “Going to celebrate with us tonight Ma’am?” I glance over to the voice. A woman a few years older than me smiles back at me with a drink warming in her hand. I glance around the bar at other patrons, quiet all the sudden. “Sure, why not, what are we celebrating this evening” A wave of laugher floods the room. “The day, of course.” “To the day!!” the call goes out again, followed by a cheer. I toast with the crowd this time. “What day is? Last I checked my calendar said Wednesday, nothing special” The room is quiet again. I can feel the eyes of celebrators burning on the back of my head. The woman next to me just laughs. “The day, the day!! The one we all hope for of course!” “The day?” “The day when we don’t hide.” “Here, here!” another round is had. I keep my gaze on my mysterious companion. “When we don’t hide? What you mean by that?” She laughs again and it is like the room falls away. Its just me and her. “The day when we can stand up and shout and declare we wont hide in the shadows. When we learn to share and live in peace. The day when every one can cry at last, for the pain of others and the hope of the dawn. For the day when we no longer fear for our lives. Tonight we toast for that day, the beautiful glorious day we know we will one day see. We toast and we pray for its speedy arrival. So we no longer wonder when our next funeral is.” “Here, here.” The soft murmur brings the room back into focus around me. The patrons around stare into the abyss of their drinks remembering, I guess, those whom they have lost. I stare too. And I see their faces and smiles and I choke back my tears. I look back at my companion. “A toast to the day” I say with a smile and a raise of my glass. She smiles back and raises her glass. “Here, here.” And we take a drink with the rest.
