Giant Rubber Ball Fails To Bounce
Saturday, 26 June 2004 02:17:44

I wonder what would have happened if it wasn't made out of rubber, but solid steel?
What would you do with a 2,600-pound giant rubber ball? Why, throw it off the back of a plane, of course. The world's biggest rubber band ball has been dropped from an airplane at one mile high. A U.S. television company offered to give the ball a spectacular send-off by filming the event and airing it on their television show, Ripley's Believe It or Not. The producers spent an estimated $4 million on the episode to film it during its descent and capture the action as it bounces to unknown heights. However, there was a problem: instead of bouncing, the ball created a massive crater in the sun-baked earth of the Mojave Desert in Arizona at 400 mph. Prior to its crash and burn plummet, the ball had been the 14-foot 8-inch circumference creation by Tony Evans, comprised of six million elastic bands.
ah, the ever eternal question what do showtunes and firefly have in common.... not a gorram thing, except maybe my eccentric (to say the least) taste. so anyway,im listening to show tunes at work and this song Maria comes on (oh you know the one... how do you solve a problem like maria lalalalal). and one of the lyrics are "how do you catch a moonbeam in your hand?" now i know im not the only one that sees the obvious answer to this, but duh ... you hitch a ride on Serenity and your on your way. problem solved.

Firefly: the best medicine
Saturday, 26 June 2004 23:40:00

Ok was cooking some lunch in the oven today, first I had to light the pilot light which has a tendency to blow out- relighting it always fun when some of the propane has built up in the oven! Well I check on the oven and its seems cold- darn pilot light out again. So if lift up the metal plate and YHARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Tai-kong suo-yo duh shing-chiouh doh sai-jin wuh duh pee-goo the gorram oven is on and f—king hot!! I went thought every Chinese curse word I know and made up a few on the way to the bathroom to run some very cold water. After I do a quick Yahoo search on first aid for minor burns I go back to my room and for 3 hours I sit there with a bunch of ice cubes to numb my fingers, watching tv in lots of pain, when I decide to put on Disk 2 of Firefly, after Shindig I decide to stop using ice- after about 15 minutes of swearing and nearly punching a few holes in the wall the pain is quieted enough to type this. So firefly did a good job of making me forget about my burned thumb and forefinger. Maybe they should play Firefly DVDs in the waiting rooms of hospitals so sooth people’s pain before seeing a doc.
