confessions/digressions

Dear bloggers, First of all its time I confessed. I admit that I sometimes operate under two other names here on this site. I'll tell you guys if you're interested. But, just so you know...... Anyway, for those of you who are interested, I made it through last semester's final projects and have since moved on to student teaching this semester. At a real school no less. It's fun, challenging, stressful, rewarding. I've never had a job that inspires me as much as playing live music. They are similar in that both situations can raise the hair on the back of my neck and forearms. When kids get it, its really cool. Admittedly, sometimes it sucks and I feel like a disciplinarian, but I'm keeping my head above water. What do I teach? English. One day I realized that reading was good for my mind, and I ran with it. Lately I've been teaching John Steinbeck and John Hersey. There is hope for Earth if kids can understand these guys and relate. Just my two cents. TurquoiseBoat (on a turquoise sea)

First-ever blog entry!

To blog or not to blog, that has been the question. I'm still not sure why anyone does this, but maybe by doing I'll discover the answer. Be warned -- most of this stuff will probably be about writing because, well, I'm a writer and I love the whole creating new worlds in words magic that goes along with that. I can't believe that I finished my first FF fan fic in January and STILL haven't posted it! Steamer was kind enough to Beta for me and I have some other writer and non-writer freinds who've given me good feedback. So why have I left it in limbo? Okay. Confession: after reading the thread on how to format it, I got a bit overwhelmed. I want to be sure that I link the parts together to make it easy for people to read and now I find out that I can do a thingie where the translations for the Chinese will pop up -- very, very shiny but...now I have to go back and be sure I've got the translations right. Am I wrong to fear that when I post it'll end up like some crazy wingding mess instead of a story? Am I too much like Adrian Monk (not entirely with-it and too OCD trying to make it perfect)? Yes. Maybe. I don't know. Can anyone say "procrastination?" WWJD? (He'd already have written two or three more FF stories by now most likely!) As usual, I'm probably being too hard on myself. After all, I have a job and a bit of a life outside work and this is just fanfic, right? Yes, but...I have this crazy dream that one day Borders will have shelves of FF novels crowding out the Star Trek books AND that my name will be on some of them. So, I do take this fanfic seriously. Call me a crazy Browncoat. (Which I wouldn't mind at all!) On a new tangent: I get so excited whenever I see the commercials for "Drive" and Nathan Fillion's face on the TV again! I'll be glued to my set for all two episodes that F*x runs before they cancel yet another fine show. That's all for now gentle readers. Luv ya all!
