Hello fellow browncoat fans I’m updating this log with the history of my FF adventure and also the history of browncoat recruiting. First of all it is just by blind luck and good fortune that I found the verse. Years ago a friend of mine was really into BTVS and told me that I should watch it. I wasn’t into watching much tv at that time and btw every time I saw this friend he was always suggesting something for me to watch or do. So without really having to say it I didn’t watch Buffy, nor did I know anything about Joss Whedon. I do like science fiction but not if I consider it realistically dull or campy cheesy. I had heard of a new si/fi show starting in 02 but I didn’t know it’s name or anything about it so I never tuned in or even made the effort to watch it. MY LOSS!! It wasn’t until a movie came out that was advertised while the wife and I were watching a Hairy Potter movie that I became aware of Serenity. I quietly leaned over to my wife and said, “ That looks good. If we get the chance I’d like to see that.” If I’m not mistaken and if I recall correctly when the BDTrailer began there were a couple of gasps in the theater crowd so the feeling I get now is that there were some hardcore fans of FF in the audience. We never made it to the theater to see Serenity , my loss again, and it wasn’t until the BDM came out on dvd that we came across it in a video store and rented it. Let me say that I was impressed with the f/x and the level of acting was top notch. I liked the characters and the interaction between them, even thought I hadn’t much investment in their history and a lot of the emotional connection to cause of the ex independent fighter just never came through. Wash’s situation was sad, but that’s all it was to me at the time, just sad. It wasn’t until watching the bonus material and seeing the honesty that came through with Joss that I decided to invest some time watching the FIREFLY tv series. After that all I can tell you is that I came here, the friendliest most welcoming group of browncoats in the verse. There was a lot of talk about FF/Serenity back then with less political, religious and real world events than there are now. Not that I’m against people stating their opinions but that’s just it, it’s only their opinions just as mine are my own. I’m here to talk about this incredible show FF and the movie it spun Serenity. I think that most people that like the show and get the show automatically go into recruiting mode. You’re just dying to get others into this verse. Well a lot of us know that isn’t easy. Just as my friend was trying to get me into the Buffy verse I find myself attempting to get people into the Firefly. So far I’ve managed to get one of my sisters and my brother into FF/Serenity. They just aren’t at the level that I am. I have loaned many folks ( about 2 dozen) the dvds and they all like the show, but liking and becoming a browncoat are way different. Also it isn’t easy to persuade someone to invest a whole weekend to watch a series and I’m talking about any series. I do like being there when someone watches an episode like “Jaynestown” or “Out of Gas” Because these shows are so well written and preformed that I feel that they are a definite hook. I want to discuss and talk about them right away. I have found that the best way to get someone into Firefly and Serenity is to watch a couple episodes with them then just leave the dvds with them for their viewing later. It’s like once someone watches them alone or in a small group that the message finally comes through. Anyhoo the next folk that I will be attempting to recruit into the browncoat brother and sisterhood are my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. They live in Houston (100 miles to the west) and I know that they are si/fi fans so I know they will love FF. The problem is getting started. Everyone is so busy trying to live in the hustle and bustle of the world that sitting down to watch a tv series, even only 14 episodes can be a task. Once started though I think that I will have them. My sister-in-law is

Well... woke up after around 9 PM after I crashed from work... Decided to see what was going on on Second life. Been attempting to get a few things done for the Firefly Simulations as well as acctually RP there so its a bit interesting at times. Feeling sleepy still may crash again before I have to go to work tonight, that way I'll be fully rested. but I only have to work till around 5 or so so it should be good till I can get back to sleep.. Either way... its cold outside and I'm getting sick... well... Not GETTING sick... more like STILL AM lol. Gotta love the snow and the winter season. Makes everything nuts including the weather.. Oh well... deck the halls and all that I suppose. All I know is... I'm going to be drinking a lot of tea and staying indoors..
