A week of sadness

Just a little tribute to our Australian heroes. First of all, last Monday I hear one of our great aussie icons, Steve Irwin died. Most people I know, laughed it off thinking that it was a joke, that it was impossible for a person like him, to die like that. Then a few days later, we Australian's lose another icon, the author of Storm Boy and if that wasn't bad enough, we lose a great sporting legend, Peter Brock, known famously for his career in Car racing. So as geniune Australians we chose to embrace the deaths of our fallen heroes and show them that we cared for what they did for us. We donated our time and effort into protecting our native animals, we cherished our written words and we paid tribute to our King of the Mountain. And to think they never gave up, even to the end. Rest in Peace our dearests, you deserve it now, more than ever, let your wisdom guide us to a better future.

Fic Update, Mostly
Monday, 11 September 2006 11:38:20

I am currently working on the Naked Beach Epilogue to From Bad to Worse, should be a two-parter. After that, I will hopefully return to and complete Sailing Beyond the Sunset, of which I have 23 more planned chapters. I also have some requested smut (more Silee, some Zonara, and my own desire to write some Zosh), and a couple of other one shot and short series ideas on deck (Drunken River Saga inspired by Leighkohl, war fic based on songs by System of a Down, and a Reaver POV fic that no one is going to want to read). I have another long week this week. The second half of the week is full of double shifts. I have to work my fed job from 0600-1430, then come home and rest for only a few minutes before a closing bartender shift from 1600-2330. I have to do it on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, so it will be like having six shifts in a row with very little sleep separating them. I should make some pretty good coin though. Saturday night I have to close, but I don't have to go in until 1700 (my football game is at 1330, so I can listen/watch before going in). I got Sunday off again too, which was so very nice yesterday for the resting. I plan to get started on my caffeinated candy beer recipe soon, so I can perfect it in time for next year's D*C. I thought about trying an Irish Red too, and probably will depending on funding. I also want to get a new power supply for my comp and hopefully get it up and running again. It has been down since June and I kinda miss being able to use it. A grouping of a lot of my favorite fanfic writers are staying together for Flan 2 in California in December, and I have been invited to stay with them. Sadly, I do not think time and financial constraints are going to allow me to be there. :( I like the forum threads, and I am glad that I have gotten involved with some of them, though honestly I could see myself getting on a lot more. ~Jimi jimi dot spettel at gmail dot com Self-Proclaimed Grand Vizier of Georgia FORSAKEN "Marijuana not only should be legal, it should be manditory." - Bill Hicks

Fic Done and I've Gone Off the Deep End!
Monday, 11 September 2006 12:16:13

FInally, after three months, that gorram fic is completed and posted. Now, go read it, please, and lemme know whatcha think? Feedback is the only way I'm ever gonna get better. Part 1 is here ttp://www.fireflyfans.net/sunroomitem.asp?i=12878 It lies, however, it says part 1/3, it's really a 4 parter. In other news, DragonCon has inspired me to start a Browncoat group of our very own in Greenvile, SC, where I am. As soon as the web site is pretty, I'm gonna start a new thread on it, but PM me if you're in the area. Well, enought shameless self promotion, I'm off to work. Be well!

SerenityCubed, Here I Come!
Monday, 11 September 2006 12:26:10

I'm leaving for England this evening. I'm going to SerenityCubed and doing some touristy things. I'm very excited, I've never been to England before. And, best of all, I finally get to meet some lovely Browncoats I've talked to for ages. See you all in a week!

5 years. I would really like to say that we have come a long way in those years, but I can't. I think this country as a whole is worse off then ever. The only thing that is remotely "good" is that Americans have a beter understanding of how we are perceived overseas. Not a good thing, since it is not a positive perception - but a good thing because now we can do something about it. Having spent most of my life in other countries, I have always known how others perceive us, and I too have shared the dread of "American tourists". My mother always made a point of telling us that we weren't tourists - we lived there. She always made sure that we were positive images of the "typical" American. I wish I could say now that the worst thing being said about America and Americans is that we are loud and rude. I am amazed sometimes by the response of Americans to anti-American sentiment. Lets face it people - EVERY Country in the world can't be wrong. IF there is such widespread dislike - perhaps we should look within and see what we are doing to create it. I know - preachin to the choir. On another note - am I the only person on the planet who thinks that poor Terry Irwin should be raving mad at Steve Irwin? I realize he was a great conservationist, a great Australian and a great guy - but CRIKES! Mate, you left behind an adoring spouse and 2 beautiful kids. I am just saying, I would be way pissed off right now where I her!

my alternate universe
Monday, 11 September 2006 23:54:37

lo, there is one big reason i love firefly. (besides the awesome writing, fantastic actors, and a certain good looking captain) i love it because its the alternative universe i can escape to. its where i can see these amazing characters and just immerse myself in that world. its a great place 2 go when things arent so hot in reality. (i mean it, things arent so hot) i think thats why so many people like it. its where you feel like you know the characters, and fox was very very very dumb to let it go. :disappointed: -Over
