I'm an old-timer to online fandom, starting out with Miami Vice on usenet (pre-web). Graduated to Quantum Leap online fandom - went to see a special screening of the "pregnant Sam" episode at Universal. Bellisarius had a special screening and panel discussion for the fans to thank us for all the letters we wrote to NBC to get it back from "Hiatus" (that threatened to be permanent). WE WON!!
Some years later, got involved with the AOL X Files Forum when it was just a folder in the TV Gossip board. FoxxMulder and I built it into a forum that was, next to Star Trek, the biggest fan forum on the service. After a year of that, I was promoted to management in the TV forums of the Entertainment area (while still running X Files, oy!). All that is gone now. AOL has since dismantled everything that made it what I thought to be a fun place. Their dismantling the communities is what prompted me to quit. So sad.
Nowadays I'm the imaniacs.org webspook. We're still trying to get it back, and new IManiacs from all over the world are checking in expressing their support for the show.
I'm SO happy to see this lovely, lively community of browncoats - a coat I wear with pride!
