DEADLINE.COM - Joss Whedon has recruited ER alumna Ming-Na Wen for one of the leads in his ABC drama pilot Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D., which he is co-writing and directing. The project, from Marvel TV and ABC TV Studios, is based on a peacekeeping group found in both the comic book and feature film universes, including the blockbuster 2012 movie The Avengers....

I don't think she's too much of a dead ringer for Summer. I could see the two of them on the same show without things getting confusing.
I'm not super concerned with the casting though. Joss seems to do just fine casting talented actors and actresses. I'm more concerned with what this show is about. Currently I don't really have an impression in my head of what it would be like episode to episode and if there is some overarching plot or just a fairly repeatative show.

Great news, because I loved Ming Na ever since her ER days and as Chun Li (guilty pleasure).
Solid kick ass actress who will do a great job, especially if they use the brilliant costumes of Jim Steranko's drawings from the 70s, coupled with Joss' spot-on dialogue. It was the best art work for Marvel ever commissioned.
Can't wait!!!!!

Between Joss' general penchant towards story arcs, and Marvel's overall gameplan - Id be utterly amazed if it didn't have an arc-based structure. Im sure, given the realities of TV, there will be a weekly case element as well, but part of a larger scheme overall - one that lets them use the series to build up to the theatrical releases each year.
Note to anyone - Please pity the poor, poor wittle Rappyboy. He's feeling put upon lately, what with all those facts disagreeing with what he believes.

She was also in the new Stargate, a bit dark and dull like Battlestar but the show had potential...too bad it got canceled

Given that Marvel committed to an arc across several blockbuster movies, I think it's fair to say they'll allow Joss to do what he does best on TV.
