Jubal's ship...

That is an extremely expensive looking ship. Why again did they just let it float away?
By the way, since it's Jubal's ship and it apperently has an autopilot (correcting course when nudged), maybe it went back and picked up Jubal through the use of some sort of homing beacon and he's still out there somewhere? Makes as much sense as any other theory I've heard about what happened to the ship..
But that --^ is a sidetrack,
My main question is, why'd they let the ship loose in the first place? Was there ever an explination?

Exactly. I always wondered why they didn't think they could get a few bucks from that boat. Maybe since it was the ship of a bounty hunter commissioned by the alliance, they were afraid to tow it anywhere. But I have to think that about 5 seconds after ol' Jubal said, "Well, here I am." he pushed a button on his arm, and his ship zoomed right back to him.
Unfortunately, I missed the next episode, so I don't know.

Remember in your theories that river could've(and most likely did, regardless of choice) act entirely alone on if she sent the ship away.

I suppose it was a little unlike the crew not to try and get something from the ship(or take the ship itself. I think maybe given the seriousness of the situation they were in they were just happy to get everyone safe on serenity. Also this was a plan put together by river who wouldn't have made stealing the ship a high priority.

Do we? I see the term "existentialist" bandied around a fair bit - to describe films, books etc. but in many cases it doesn't seem to actually relate to any of the concepts of Existentialism - is there another use of the word that I don't know about it not related to Existentialism?

Ah, if I could. I lent the DVDs to a recent convert... Now, I need them back. It's been a while since I watched the commentaries - it's possible the coolness of that episode made me forget the commentary content.
