Even though I never reviewed "Serenity" in first run, this is the only episode that I never got to see when it aired. It was pre-empted in this area, so I didn't catch it until the DVDs came out. What can I say? I love Saffron! I always was a sucker for the bad girls...
Here's my review for Firefly 1.6: "Our Mrs. Reynolds":

Overall, this episode built on the established relationships while presenting Mal with a very interesting new adversary. Saffron is a wonderful addition to the series, and her attempts to woo Mal force some intriguing responses out of Inara and Zoe. Filled with Joss’ usual humor, this is an example of taking a well-worn plot and making it work.

You can rate and comment on episodes via this very site... please do so, we always dig havin' more Browncoats around.
Dunno if you have the box set or not, but whereas Saffron wasn't exactly a new cast member or anything, she didn't exactly go away either...

It's a small point, but I love that when Book wants to figure out Triumph marriage customs, he asks Simon if he has an encyclopedia, and Simon says "of course." I mean, who *wouldn't* pack an encyclopedia when he was running for his life?
It also shows that even though you can download things off the Cortex, paper books (and not just the Bible)continue to be used. Although I've been meaning to freeze-frame to check if the encyclopedia and Book's Bible aren't the same prop. I also think that what Jayne pretends to read from in Safe ("today I was pompous and my sister was crazy...best day EVER") must be the encyclopedia, because I can't believe that Simon actually does keep a diary.
I know that Joss is a Blakes7 fan, and for anyone who's seen that series, enjoyment of this episode is greatly enhanced by yawning and saying, "Oh, yeah, Deliverance, I know what's going to happen" and being SO wrong.

^I thought Simon's encyclopedia was the electronic thing he had in that one serenity cut scene and not an actual paper book.

Yup:

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

Maybe Jayne just picked up a paper book and assumed it was a diary. He's not exactly a big reader, after all.

Shiny and Ghola: thanks, I stand corrected.
Quicksand: I agree that Jayne isn't a big reader--my question is, well, what WAS the book Jayne was leafing through? (It'd be interesting if it was an un-fixed Bible.)

Yeah, I know Saffron wasn't a regular as such, but she was still a semi-regular (and obviously intended to be so)...that being the reason for the "addition to the series" comment...
Yeah, I have the DVDs, and in fact, this is my second time reviewing the series. I wrote a number of reviews during first run.

The original reviews are posted in the archives here (just do a search for "review"):
http://www.fireflyfans.net/threadlist.asp?b=4&a=1
Alternatively, they are posted on Entil'zha's own web page here:

Entil'zha's reviews were one of the first things I read through when I found this site last December. It reminded me all over again of the frustration of watching the show on Fox. I've really enjoyed the updates that he has been posting after viewing the episodes in the Joss order on the DVD. One thing he has done is highlight the implications of Fox's decision to air the episodes out of order. So you might enjoy reading his Fox reviews and comparing them with the DVD reviews.
I shaved off my beard for you, devil woman!
