Did anybody even know the end of the internet is/was potentially looming this week?

KOSA
The first step to tying every single thing you ever do on the internet directly to you for the rest of your life.
But it's "for the kids".
Honestly, I don't even know what the status of this issue is. I've heard reports that it was going to a vote on Wednesday. Now I'm hearing that it's already, thankfully, dead.
If you do a search for the last 24 hours on this, I see 2 articles from sources I never heard before saying that it's already dead, but I've seen YouTubers talking about it only 5 or 6 hours ago that say it's going to a vote on Wednesday.
Here's one of the articles saying it's dead.

Though I've never read or heard of CPR, their factual grade is HIGH at mediabiasfactcheck and they're Left-of-Center.

I agree that something needs to be done and that kids living on the internet 24/7 is a huge problem.
Requiring Digital IDs for everyone is not a reasonable solution to the issue.
If it failed now, I'm still worried about what's going to happen with it next year. Mike Johnson seems gung ho about getting "something" done, even if he didn't think the solution as it was currently written was the right thing to do.
Maybe this is why all we hear about right now are drones in New Jersey, HB1 Visas and President Musk?
Maybe, given the LGBTQIAC3POR2D2+ crowd's huge misgivings about this bill, this is the real reason why pride month was shut down the last few years and nobody caters to any of them anymore? Somebody in the government a few years ago probably said "WAAAAAAAAIT A MINUTE!!! We've given that demographic WAY TOO MUCH POWER and they need to be taken back down a peg or two."
Let's just kneecap anybody who could possibly make a stink about this issue from either side until we push it through, right?
This is an issue that could have unimaginable impact worldwide for the future of the human race. I resent with ever fiber of my being the fact that 435 overpaid and underworked assholes, half of which still couldn't even turn on a computer without their aide's help, are going to make this decision for 8 Billion of us.
And I REALLY resent the fact that I never even heard about this bill until noon today.

Why is the Department of Defense giving money to organizations that determine which news outfits companies can advertise on?

Wednesday? New Years Day?
Will Congress be in session? The new Congress seats on Thursday or Friday. Could both House and Senate vote on New Years Day?
Sounds fishy.

Isn't that when they usually pass bills like this?
