The Japanese stuff is selling however.
DC comics and movies and VideoGames and Baseball and Marvel and all this stuff is part of America's modern mythology, its like the Romans and Chinese had their own legends. Japan has dominated the video game indudtsry for years, South Korea and HongKong movies already had their own Asian cult followings, Italy and France and others had their own toon culture and movies but now Japan animation or Japanese anime and Manga is totally outselling in the USA, it outsells US Marvel stuff, the Disney stuff, the scifi, the DC superheroes are all flopping.
The DC Universe from Warner Bros kinda sucks, its like they rushed everything trying to make the next Ironman, Jurrasic Park, Avengers, Titanic, Xmen, Avatar, Spider-Man block buster.
The Corona might have been the final death blow, the Covid virus the final nail in the ocffin. Everything selling now is Asian, its Manga or its Anime. The US comicbook is dead.

Studios going broke and the death of their Woke-Culture, a Japanese toon and comic called Demon Slayer outsold the entire US comic industry combined.
They seem to now be retconning warping characters liek Captain America and Superman for absolutely no reason than political correctness, making them now a Lesbian, Black, Muslim, Transexual whatever for werid political reasons. Hollywood used to be the best and most innovative movie industry in the world but its gone weird, the perverted agenda stuff has been exposed and Hollywood has changed in past couple of years. South Korea is giving better quality in terms of movies, Japan is doing better toons.
There seems to be constant Agenda Pushing in video games and Comicbooks in the West, they want to make Superman Black, Captain America is now a gay antifa Q-Anon transexual, Miss Marvel becomes a muslim islamic etc. Some people just want a good comic, a fun story in a video game or to read without others coming in and hijacking and pushing their weird narcissistic political agendas. American Comics have gone to the most loved and are the most hated most overrated of all the arty book forms out there.
Japan toons are selling better, Manga is taking over the world.
Strange how Manga is selling better than comics currently.

The latest super hero flicks and the Disney Star Wars films besides being Woke also suffer from bad writing, and when fans complain they're mocked by the the douchebags that work at the studios. They thought that plenty of CGI and action scenes were enough to over come bad lazy writing BUT, fans have turned away from STAR WARS, STAR TREK, Doctor Who and the super hero films. Wonder Woman 1984 bombed and the Star Wars and Star Trek TV shows have no viewers, same for the super hero shows on CW. Also, the direction that Doctor Who has gone has ruined it. But it may not matter anymore, most of the 18-49 crowd doesn't watch TV or go to movies anymore, they're busy playing video games.

Nah. He wasn't always a dude. The DC one isn't related at all, and the Marvel one was a dude. But he died of cancer and Carol Danvers was a real thing in the comic books after that. She actually died at one point because X-Men's Rogue killed her in a fight on a bridge.

Like I said, female Captain Marvel was a thing. It could have been done well had there been good writing behind it instead of an agenda.
What they REALLY wanted to do was shoehorn Carol Danvers into the universe very late in the game and ret-con everything that had happened up to that point and make her the "savior" in End Game. At least the fan backlash put the brakes on that and gave her a very small role in End Game.
But now that they've blown their load and raced to tell most of the biggest stories to make a quick buck, they can't go back to small events and small characters with no huge payoff looming without some sort of gimmick.
So Marvel Phase 4 is going to kill off most of the white males (including Dr. Strange now, apparently), cram a lot of diversity hires in there and hope that it doesn't shit the bed.

It's currently sitting at 6.1k likes and 294k dislikes, and the comic was never made.
It was pretty much universally hated. I'm pretty sure my old man who was an avid comic collector in his youth shed a tear when he saw it.

Yeah. Some article was celebrating the "first kiss" issue as "unprecedented" in sales numbers.
Kind of hilarious, really. No. 60,000 some-odd issues sold is far from unprecedented. The Death of Superman in 1992 sold over 6 Million copies. The re-boot of X-Men in 1991 was the highest selling comic by volume selling over 8 Million copies.
What the writer of the article actually meant (but didn't say in the headline) was that it is unprecedented for the 5th issue of a book to sell more than the first issue. But why would that be something to celebrate when nobody was buying your book it the first place?
It wouldn't. Not for the creators or the owners. Only for a journalist with an agenda.
I can't even find any sales figures for issue #1 for the 1987 version of Superman that ended up with the "Death of Superman" in issue #75.
I wouldn't assume it was very much though. 1987 was the second year in comic book history that is now referred to as the "Dark Age", which ended in 2000. People were just starting to find out that nobody was going to make any money collecting any of the new stuff coming out. (All of those comic books I bought and put in bags with cardboard are worth less than toilet paper today)
The last issue of the original Superman run that directly preceeded this reboot only sold 161,000+ copies. That's down from regularly selling over one million copies per issue in the 60's and over half a million per issue in the 70's.
Long story short...
Killing Superman made a lot of people who didn't buy comics buy that issue.
Making Superman kiss a dude hardly left an impression on an already failing reboot.
