The new series "War of the Worlds" aired its first episode Sunday on Epix. Anybody happen to watch? It was pretty thrilling, and has great potential.

I'm in.

Best class I took in college was "Apocalyptic Novel." We read and studied about 8 end of the world books - fantastic. This looks worth getting Epix for.

Man that's a great trailer. You almost didn't need to watch the episode 'cause it's all in that trailer. I like the scope of the camera work, the Alps scenery, and the European background to the whole thing is a nice change from the usual American approach.

I don't know if this series will surpass the greatness of the classic 1953 movie, but I already like it more than the Tom Cruise/Spielberg movie. And where did they dig up Elizabeth McGovern from? I haven't seen her since the 80's when she was Hollywood's golden girl. And having Gabriel Byrne's acting chops is icing on the cake.

Yeah - I stopped watching it half way!

It looks like high end production for sure, though these days even the History Channel is putting out some good looking shows.

Just as an aside: f*ck AT&T. They took over Directv and completely shat on their web site. You get redirected to AT&Ts now for anything DTv and it's impossible to use.

Ok, better now - $5 a month for Epix - good test.

Epix usually doesn't have very much to watch, but their On Demand listings are great …. lots of 50's and 60's 'B' sci fi movies, and movies about "bad girls" in prison and gangs, tight sweaters and all. I love watching all those cheesy movies with bad acting and cheap production because they're just great fun entertainment.

Odd at the timing of this, along w the news of Betelgeuse dimming and possibly ( but not really ) going supernova.

So the "signal" came from another galaxy? And then days, weeks months(?) later, we've got incoming objects?

Sorry, I tried to watch, but had to bail before the end of the 1st episode. Just bad science. Like really stupid bad.

Vega made sense ( Contact ) because it's close enough for it to receive and then send back a signal. Nothing beyond 100 light years would be eligible, say for straight up dumb luck.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

Speaking of the above-mentioned Contact, I met Jake Busey a few years ago at a con in Orlando. Very nice man with a great sense of humor. He was very enthusiastic discussing his roles in Contact and Starship Troopers.

Meh - it's TV. Was Firefly all great science? Science Fantasy may be a better term for the genre...?
