We've got a Roku now (gift from a relative that upgraded theirs), and I was clicking through the free movies last night when I came across an Australian space horror movie I've never heard of called Infini (from 2015).

Set in the future, a man joins up with a space force and has a bad first day at work when he tries to survive a biological disaster on Infini station, somewhere on the other side of our galaxy.

I have to say the acting is probably the best thing about it. Imagine if everyone on Serenity started to slowly turn into a Reaver. The plot has a couple glaring holes, (a big one relating to time dilation fields) but they really sell the crazy.

It's got Rick O'Connell's kid from the Mummy series, and the lesser known Hemsworth, Luke. The lead was on the Aussie Dancing with the Stars, and is pretty relate-able, except for one scene where they make him cry, badly.

Overall, it kept my attention, had a couple good fight scenes, and a decent ending. A pretty surprising B+ movie where I didn't expect to find ANYTHING good about it.

I have to admit, there is far more to watch on the Roku than I thought I would find. It's great to rent movies on Amazon and watch them on other tvs as well...I wouldn't mind having the new upgraded smart soundbar Roku, either.

Never tried a Roku or known anybody who has one. Been using the Amazon FireStick for 5 years now though and I love it.

The upgraded one came with the Alexa voice thing though, so my remote has a huge ring of duct tape wound around the middle to cover the hole.

Sounds like an interesting movie.

We have a mix of Amazon Fire sticks and Rokus, both work fine for us with a slight edge to Amazon.
But all our Fire stuff is pretty new, while the Rokus lean on the older side. One still even has RCA plugs.

I probably never would have bought one or messed with it at all, except for the gift.
I like to keep things pretty simple and uncluttered with stuff, but leaving the house when we're bored just goes south so much these days.

I have "Ask This Old House" and "Good Eats" on in the background most of the day now.
Haven't watched this much TV since we had cable back in '06.

I dunno how big a Roku is, but the FireStick is just a bit bigger than a USB thumb drive and plugs directly into an HDMI port and has a plug for extra power to the wall if your TV doesn't give it enough juice by plugging the USB end straight into an additional USB port on the TV.

No clutter there. I usually ape off of other people's streaming services on the rare occasion I even find anything I want to watch on it these days, so I haven't looked into whether or not KODI works well around here anymore. Some people say it's no good anymore, while others say that it works great. It's fairly easy to program even for computer novices. You might want to look into a youtube video on it when they split everything up into 30 different streaming services you need to pay for and keep track of which shows are on which services.

Nah... I just saw your soundbar thing and I've seen pics of the older Roku boxes. I wasn't aware that they made a stick version too until just now. I'm sure that they're more or less the same thing.

If it works and you don't have any buffering issues that you can't attribute to your internet connection itself, then no need to make a switch. I was just referring to your comment about not wanting the clutter. It's virtually clutter free.

My old man swore by the larger FireTV unit that would be similar to the Ultra Roku. More expensive and actually does take up some real estate on your TV stand. But he says that the recent FireStick upgrade is all anybody needs, at least with streaming today.

I've had all 3 versions of the Stick myself now. First one was actually the size of a USB stick and the remote was smaller with no Alexa button or microphone. I got a free replacement a few years later after arguing with India customer support in a chat window for a few hours after Amazon forced an update and I could no longer pair my remote to it. The second one was larger than a USB stick and came with Alexa.

On Prime day a while back my old man told me the upgraded 4k FireStick was selling for only $25. I also had $7 in points on my card, so I got it for $18 bucks.

I don't have a TV that can even view 4k yet, but I was talking to my old man about it and said that I still preferred to watch streaming stuff on the old XBox 360 my brother gave me because if I was just "surfing" for a while there were no problems. However, on generation 2 of the FireStick if I surfed around too long, it would start lagging really bad when I had made too many image thumbnails for shows and movies come up in one session. The new 4K one doesn't do that at all, and now I don't have to power up a beast of a machine that draws 300watts when I want to watch a TV show.

The new 4K stick has about twice as many buttons on the remote too, including volume to your TV, which makes for an even better experience.

That's cool. Kind of a pain in the ass, but if you can deal with bouncing around from one to the other to see shows that you want to watch and not give in like they want you to and start buying up so many services at once that it starts to feel like the days before you cut the cord when the bills start rolling in.

I don't use Kodi myself now just because I barely ever watch anything anymore and I just ape off of a few other people's streaming services on the rare occasions that I do. If I were still an avid TV watcher though I'd go back to where I had pretty much everything I'd ever want to see all in one place.

If you ever change your mind, let me know. If you just google or youtube search for KODI there are probably about a million different hits going back years now. There are also install packages that you would want to avoid because they put stuff on there along with KODI that you really don't want. There are some trusted outfits out there that are safe though.

It used to be a pretty big task to install it, requiring a separate PC, downloading software onto it, linking it up with your stick and running some stuff, then going to the firestick and doing a bunch of additional stuff. They've made it really simple now and everything can be done on the stick. I think I had it up an

So far so good with the game. I've gotten further than I ever had before with no signs of it slowing down and eventually locking up like it did with the first generation FireStick.
