Ok so we have all speculated about Firefly/Serenity merchandise and what we would like to see.
This morning I found this over at the official site:

Thanks MYORANGEHAT.... we wont sell it on the site, but there will be serenity merchandise in stores timed with the movie release.
Interesting. Wonder what type of merchandise they are planning and if we will be able to get sneak peeks of it or not.
The thread can be found here:

Post is on the 4th page of the thread.

I would have thought that confirmation from an official source, combined w/ the announcement of the trading cards would have inspired some conversation.

As much as I like Serenity (and probably partly for this reason) it doesn't show much promise for mechandise.
Let's go through the list of typical brand-name mechandise that are movie/licensing tie-ins.
Cars: Nope. Set 500 years in the future.
Watches: See above.
Computers: See above.
Video Game: Distinct possibility. I would look forward to that.
Board Game: Very possible. I actually have designed two board games based on Firefly (winks in direction of imaginary Universal execs reading this thread)
Clothing/Fashion: Possible, but not likely.
Breakfast Cereal: Flat out no.
Fast Food Franchise "Happy Meal" Promotion Products: No.
Action Figures/Toys: I know that someone else on the board has done them up, but I really don't think they'd fly for Serenity based products.
Scale Models: Could work.
Role-playing: Definitely.
So, sadly, I don't think there's much merchandizing that could work, except for the usual "niche" sci-fi stuff. Then again, they probably said that about the first Star Trek series, and look where that went.

Hey! I'd be all about the Serenity happy meal. Hey, a free blue glove and a Reaver in every pack!
Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

RopeOfSilicon.com has this to say:
Quote:
As for Serenity, "Firefly" fans the world-round will get a look at an original sci-fi adventure based on the acclaimed "Firefly" series, in which a small band of galactic outcasts 500 years in the future eke out a living pulling off small crimes and transports-for-hire aboard their ship, Serenity. When they take on two new passengers, they find themselves at the center of a deadly hunt that pits Serenity against the greatest forces in the galaxy. Joss Whedon, the Academy® and Emmy-nominated writer/director of the worldwide television phenomena "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel", makes his feature film directorial debut with the futuristic action-adventure. Just like Spy Hunter an innovative action-adventure video game, and an exciting multi-titled publishing program will expand the Serenity universe.
Now, what I find interesting is last line. Did I miss an announcement? Is there going to be a line of Firefly novels? A video game?
