There is a British website called http://sfcrowsnest.com (also listed as computercrowsnest.com), which is run by Stephen Hunt and Geoff Willmets and a few others. They host a myriad array of reviews of SF books, films, tv shows, convention news, etc. They have just announced the winners of the second annual Wooden Rocket Awards, given to genre websites, both professional and fan generated.

Drumroll please! This year's winner of Best Fan TV Site (category #12) is none other than this site, Haken's shiny fireflyfans.net.

There was a total of 12,381 people who cast votes this year. If you click on the link "Click here to see the 2003 Wooden Rocket winners," you will notice that in category #14, Best Fan Site Home Page, one of the runners up happened to be the site I created, www.templetongate.com. Unfortunately I didn't make the cut this year.

Wow, congrats, Haken! The best fan site in the world!

IMHO, the title of this thread should be "Haken wins an award" because Wooden Rocket doesn't really sound that interesting.

Ouch! I touched it (I couldn't help myself...it's so BIG) and I got a splinter! I guess it's too new. Perhaps if you rubbed some fine grit sandpaper over it a few times, it would get smoother. And then buff with some tung oil. If you don't want to go that route, just let a lot of people handle it and it will get smoother on its own. Over time. Where's Simon? I need medical assistance...
