Ya left out the part where many of the rebels are al-Queida or jihadists.

But, yeah, we oughtta support those guys. And maybe give them weapons. Lots of weapons.

Hell, shouldn't we just go in there and fight their fight, win their war, spend a lot of American dollars and lives, for them, throw Assad out?

Hey, won't they greet us as Liberators, and give our troops flowers as we march victoriously down the streets afterwards, Mr. Cheney?

It's atrocious. And it doesn't surprise me. The whole mess in Syria is nightmare fuel and external parties just seem to throw more weapons or logistical support into this civil war, when it appears that everyone is only becoming ever more radicalized and brutal the longer it drags on.

You'd think after 80,000 dead someone would take a step back and wonder whether everyone funding this blood bath from one side or the other might channel their money and energy into something to prevent further carnage? Like, say, talk? Now people are attacking Syrian refugees in Turkey because the mess the country helped stir is spilling over the border.

But who cares about civilians...

And we all should be grateful that no one was water boarded. My god, can you imagine the outrage if that'd happened ???

If they're eating enemy hearts and occasionally massacring civilians, we can safely assume that various forms of torture are also going on, don't you think?

Who can say for sure, but as long as there's no water boarding going on... we can be hopeful for at least that much, right ?

The most important point is that this is just like what happened in Libya, except that we supported the "rebels" and brought the "revolution" to a quick end. But despite the quick end, Libya is turning into a hardline Islamist state.

These nations are not having "revolutions for freedom" as we like to think of them but serious internal civil wars in which few participants are worthy of our support. The "rebels" who seem to best be able to take advantage of the chaos are hardline Islamists, whether you're looking at Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, or Syria.
