Aaahhh, Saffron, our favorite recurring antagonist whom we love to hate!

Every time she appears, she seems to have a new identity under which she perpetrates her cons, and a different set of co-conspirators, collaborators, or dupes. Many of whom she marries.

So...

In OMR, she's "Saffron," she's in position on Triumph, and she's working with Breed and Corbin (the two guys who are working the "net") and possibly also in cahoots with Elder Gommen. Her game is to lure unsuspecting ships into the net.

In Trash, she's "Bridget" and married to Monty, whom she had planned to sweet-talk into doing the Lassiter job. When that didn't work out, it was Mal she sweet-talked into doing the Lassiter job, and it turned out that on Bellerophon she was known as "Yolanda" and she was married to the Alliance official Durran Haymer. And it turned out that she'd also conned Heinrich the Security Programmer and left him for dead somewhere along the way.

So...what other identities has Saffron worn over the years, what other con games has she perpetrated, who else has she married, and what other worlds has she run her scams on?

I'm curious to hear your ideas, speculations, and creative thinking!

I could see her trying counterfeiting. Platinum mostly likely, since credits are probably tracked more closely.

Here's some specific cons. Salting (or putting hints or a valuable ore somewhere to convince a dupe to buy shares of a non-existent money company) has potential. Ever since Mal mentioned prospectors to Inara in Out of Gas I've been curious about the gold rush/ mining consortium side of the western tropes Firefly has.

Really Saffron could probably have done any and ALL of these.

As for another husband, I can imagine that she married a hard boiled detective type somewhere, who knows she's bad news and still can't help himself. The same kind of detective type that might go after Serenity, but then end up on the same side.

Interesting. Fun story premises, although I have doubts that Saffron could run a planet or a criminal empire any more than MAL could. They both just have too much trouble getting their lives together and are criminally unlucky and take too many risks and are kind of an unholy human mess of issues.

I've actually always wanted to see a little bit more between Saffron and Jayne, because the two of them could do an AMAZING spin off. Sometimes they're working with each other, sometimes against each other, but it's always double crossings and treachery and hilarity. Jayne is both street smart and gullible in different ways than Mal is, and would be even more exasperating to Saffron, and yet they're also a lot alike in their outlook.

Mal Saffron interactions are good too though. I wonder if over time they were planning on having Saffron develop some sort of crazy psychopath crush on him since he was nice to her a few times even though he knows what she is.

Oh man yes. That would also be a good match up.

See Mal might be nice enough to get himself reeled in and smart enough to set up his own double cross, but I want to watch Saffron screw over people who are suspicious but greedy, and be backstabbed by those same people likewise.

Just a perpetual cycle of criminal con artists trolling each other for our entertainment, and then how whoever gets left holding the bag gets out of it.

Gorrammmit, I thought I replied to this thread already.

I started a fanfic once where she was working under still another name, as as a shill for a crooked gambler. Married to him, too, of course. She would certainly be a distraction, no?

Unfortunately, never got past the opening scene, the shootout at the saloon where he gets killed and she gets rescued by the BDH's. Couldn't figure out just which specific crime she would want to involve our crew in.
