NEW: Well, we're having a runoff, in another thread. Go vote.

On behalf of Elwoodmom and myself, I announce the championship round of the cast review, when we pit the winners from the three Joss shows up against each other to see who the board's all time favorite characters are.

The rules are simple -- one guy vote, one girl vote for each voter, voting closes midnight eastern time on Wednesday, May 26. You may only vote for the characters who have already won (in other words, votes for Mal will NOT be counted). You can mix and match series (for example, vote for Wesley and Kaylee). No voting by proxy. All votes must be cast in this thread. No changing your vote once it's been cast.

The Competitors:

Jayne Cobb, representing Firefly vs.
Spike, aka William the Bloody, representing Buffy vs.
Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, representing Angel

AND

Kaywinnet Lee Frye, representing Firefly vs.
Willow Rosenberg, representing Buffy, vs.

Too ruttin easy--

For the guys--
(sorry to Firefly fans, me included) Spike wins hands down (this is largely due to the fact that Spike was around 7 seasons, whereas Jayne had a rather truncated life, so far).

And for the girls--
Kaylee (I like Willow, but Kaylee rules... and Fred is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYY too skinny, plus she irritates the ever lovin snot out of me)...

SO, Spike and Kaylee win, end of it.

Wesley (my favorite Joss character on any show, hands down)

Little harder to pick for the girls, but I've got to go with Willow.

This one is hard. I think i'll go with Spike and......wow, for the girls its a hard one... but i think i'll go with Fred, even though i love Kaylee like a lot a lot a lot, i'm going to have to go with Fred.

These are really tough choices...

This may just be an emotional reaction to "Angel" ending yesterday, but I'm going to go with Wes and Fred. As much as I really like the others, I think those two gave the best performances.

ok. I'm gonna make it shortish today (it's late here and I'm tired):

girls first becasue it's easier:

my vote has to be: Willow
...there's nothing else, although Keylee is sweet in her own way. Fred doesn't even come into consideration. I have no problems chosing here because even if I had all the females from all the shows to chose I'd still take Willow.

for the men it's almost as easy but not quite

my vote goes to Spike
Wes would be a close second (if not as close as Giles would be or Simon if they were in the poll, but...). Jayne is a big dumb unciviliced turn off. sorry all the fans but he's really not my type. If I had all the males I'd be sitting here and thinking for days (Spike, Giles or Simon) so it's somewhat easier even if Wesley is a very possible choice too. I have to take some time to watch the last 2.5 seasons of Angel first before I can really decide against him. but that's not gonna happen til Wednesday so my vote is Spike.

and has someone noticed that Buffy and Angel both didn't do too well? that should be weird somehow but for me they were both really not the most interesting characters on either show.

Yes, I spotted that as I tallied the votes. But it didn't surprise me. The heroes of the shows have to stay heroes -- Angel's turns as Angelus aside. They can miss out on some interesting plotlines because they can't be too weak. They can't drift too far from centers of their characters. Nor are they necessarily the smartest -- both Buffy and Angel had a Watcher (in some capacity or another) around to do the research. The jobs of being funny, or clever, or getting the really wide-arcing plot lines went to other characters (Wes and Cordy in Angel, Willow and Xander in Buffy). The moderate in the middle, the center of the show, has trouble being as interesting as the people who can go to extremes and to edges.

Just to make this clear, this isn't a crisitism of Buffy or of Angel, both of whom I like well enough.

Girly vote is easy: Willow.

Actually, yes. Mal and Jayne were tied, so there was a runoff vote that Jayne won.

Definitely Wes for the guy, but as much as i liked Fred/Illyria this season, I'll go with Kaylee, because everybody loves Kaylee! (Hey, she could have her own show ;-)

Jayne gets an honorable mention though. Adam Baldwin is a great actor and I'm sure that we would have seen a lot of growth in Jayne. I think JW meant to kill him off for the 1st Season Finale, though...

KarenKay99, I'm the originator of the favorite cast member poll. Delia is nice enough to take on the 3-show poll, since I know squat about Angel and Buffy. Hey, everyone quit throwing tomatoes at me! (ducking to the right) Anyway, it was a very tight race between Mal and Jayne from day one. Like Delia mentioned, it came down to a special tie-breaker day, just so we could have resolution. I spread the thread to other areas, so that we may get as many votes as possible, and fair ones, too. Now, some may say that Jayne won only because Adam Baldwin communicates with the people on the board (well, the political folk, at least), but I must say, I forwarded this thread to a Mal Hottie thread, Wash is a Hottie thread, and Adam is a Hottie thread. I even found a Simon/Kaylee thread, devoted to their relationship. So, may I ask...HOW THE HECK DID YOU MISS MY POLL??

Spike and Willow. I feel kinda bad voting for the two from Buffy, and thought about giving my man Wes the vote, but at the end, we're supposed to be voting solely on hotness factor, right? so Spike and Willow. Tho I do think it's intersting how the woman from each show isn't the one who's supposed to be the "hot one", but instead the one who's more the heart of the show (tho Cordy was like this in s3 AtS). And the guys who won aren't the hero-figure of their show, but instead the badass of the show (I'm thinking of ScruffyWes for him).

I vote for Jayne. As I mentioned before, I've been a fan of AB's since the early 80's. As for the girls, well, I guess it will be Kaylee, since I don't know the other ladies. I voted for Zoe in the Firefly poll, but Kaylee was my second choice. Delia, do you count votes if people haven't seen all 3 shows?

i think this might have started the week i was on vacation. i saw the hottie threads but they were so big and i didn't have time to get through it all so i didn't open. i've missed a few evenings with the nicer weather and all. i got a blister on my middle right finger and it made typing painful. i broke my baby toe and have been limping around alot. i usually post in the evenings after a couple glasses of wine so my vision might have been a little blurry.

Spike. It's tough, because he and Jayne have similar functions, but I've gotta go with Spike.

And I wish Illyria and Fred were listed as two different characters, because I never was a huge fan of Fred, but the more I heard Illyria talk to more I liked her. I mean, come on: "I will make trophies of their spines." What is more awesome than that? So I guess I'm voting for Fred/Illyria, but really just Illyria.

Choosing between the girls is easy for me. It has to be Willow (it would have been Cordy, but that is not an option here *sniff*).

Choosing between the guys is much harder. Spike and Wes are both such great characters that have developed in some interesting and unexpected ways, but they have both still remained true to themselves. I think I have to go with Spike, though, because he was always so much fun to watch. There were times when watching Wes was downright painful.

I didn't choose the firefly characters (they weren't even in the running for me) because they weren't given the chance to grow/change/develop in the brilliant and (to me) unimaginable ways that Joss would have dreamed up.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Firefly! I have been a Buffy/Angel fan since day 1. I watched both shows throughout their entire runs (again *sniff*) and I still think they are extraordinary. So when I say that I think Firefly was even BETTER than either of those shows, that is very high praise indeed. If Firefly had had the 5 (7, 10...)seasons it should have had, my voting in this contest would have been very different.

Now they see sky and they remember what they are.

Even with the fresh image of Strawberries I still have to cast my vote for Willow. I didn't like the Tara years much, maybe because I was a huge fan of Oz?

For the gents my vote goes to Spike.

I do have to agree with some earlier statements that these votes may be influenced by the amount of time these two characters were part of the weekly entertainment.

The guys vote, well, that's an easy one for me. Spike is, hands down, my favorite character out of any show Joss has ever produced. Not only is he a bad ass, he also has some of the funniest lines. So my vote for the guys is for Spike.

As for the girls, well, thats a little tougher. It seems to me to be a toss up between Willow and Fred, and I love both the characters. But if I had to pick just one, I'd have to say Fred.

Absolutely, completely, totally hot.

Also, I don't think there's a chance souled Spike would "betray" Angel -- move against him if he felt it needed doing, hell yes. But not betray in the Jayne-selling-crew-members-out-for-money sort of way. Spike might pick little fights, be insubordinate in small ways (though he never agreed to be subordinate anyway), but betrayal is a bit much.

Now, if we're talking about NON-souled Spike, he's capable of betraying anyone (see the alliance with Adam, his treatment of Harm and Dru when he got all Buffy crazy). But if you're talking about the relationship on AtS, then I think Angel is more capable of betraying Spike than the other way around.
