Well, usually videogaming or movie boards have large subsections for those topics.

And there's a board that the general discussion forum is notorious for bad behaviour and trolling and some really awful pictures and posts (4chan), but it has some large and more tame subsections.

Or, I think that livejournal has some communities like this.

And tvtropes also has boards, but they're not so easy to find underneath the main site, it's like a encyclopedia of commonly used story archetypes and themes.

Livejournal might be your best bet.

I'd recommend Ex Isle: http://www.exisle.net/mb/index.php?act=idx

It may not be as "big" as some boards, but we tend to be well-behaved, and we have a fair number of industry insiders who post regularly. Plus we have Orpheus; he's our own pet Mad Scientist.

I'm also on the Allspark: http://www.allspark.com/forums/

It's mainly a Transformers board, but General Discussion has a bit of everything --and our My Little Pony sub-forum is the biggest MLP board you'll find outside of 4chan.
