We had a small Firefly-themed shindig for my friend Angel’s birthday! This is the cake that I made for her, inspired (of course) by the fluffy dress that Kaylee wears in the Firefly episode 'Shindig'.
It’s a vanilla butter sponge cake, filled and covered with Swiss Meringue Buttercream. The doll was a slightly-scary mermaid doll from the dollar store . . . .
It took about three or three and a half hours of piping to decorate the cake and the doll’s body. Totally worth the hand cramp, though.

I did the skirt, my friend Melody did the bodice, and yes I know the doll is creepy, but when you're shopping for Barbies at the dollar store you don't have a lot of options.
