Remember in the movie during the battle over Mr.Universe, theres a big ship that rams the operatives battleship, is it just some random design or does it have a name/type?

I'd assume it's a Reaver ship, so I don't think I know, and it might be so heavily modified that the class can't be determined. Off hand without a scren shot from the movie on hand, my guess would be it's a U-ey, UH-1 transport, like the one in the pilot.

I know a lot of the Alliance ships types, though. The flying cities we see in the series are Tohoku cruisers. In the battle itself, the ones with the long clear glass necks are apparently carriers with short range fighters, and they also have some battlecruisers and dreadnaughts.

I thought the "city-ships" were Dortmunder-class, after the one featured in Bushwhacked

:) Dortmunder is the name of the ship. You know how American Ships are like "U.S.S. Texas" and British ships are "H.M.S. Pinafore"?

The full designation of the ship is the I.A.V. Dortmunder. The I.A.V. stands for something- Alliance Vessel, I forget what the 'I' is.

The actual CLASS of the city-cruisers is listed in the Serenity RPG manual. Which you may or may not take as canon, but I figure it's good enough for me.

Interstellar Alliance Vessel

Like many things in Firefly,
the Alliance city ships stood science-fiction convention on its head.
I REALLY loved the concept!
