I love how this starts. It fits so much better into the fold of the verse and does an amazing job, in just eight pages, of connecting the film to the series. Gorramit now I want more. I'm going to amaazon and ordering it now.

Very cool.
On a personal level, I was excited to see the intro/structure of the story, which seems to mirror, to some extent, what we did when we told our Book "origin story" over at www.stillflying.net.
I'm sure what we came up with is quite different than what Joss and the gang did, but if you want to read some Shepherd-y goodness while you're waiting for November, consider giving us a try. Here's a direct link to the episode's script:

I'm sure the House that Whedon Built will do it better, but at least my crew can say we did it first! :)

Been eagerly waiting on this one. Sure seems like it took it's good ol' sweet time getting here.
I looked at the first page of the preview, but no further. Going to wait until the 27th. No point spoiling the surprise for myself, especially after the wait we've had for it.

While I am, like any self-respecting Browncoat, wetting myself with anticipation of this one, I can't help but wonder if this is Joss' swansong in the verse - he's giving up the one real character mystery left from the series. Does he view this as the end? I hope not.... :(

There's room for many more Joss Whedon written comics, excuse me, graphic novels covering what the crew was doing while Serenity was being rebuilt. When there is no option for them to run away from the Alliance. . . there is all kinds of drama to be created. And at the end of the movie, I want to believe that the big piece of Serenity which broke off was sabotage by the Alliance. Joss could create a story about that, too.

Well, there is still Inara's mystery, I suppose.
I'm a bit conflicted about learning about Book...of course I want to know, but I've also enjoyed not knowing too.
I guess its kinda like learning about the backstory with Darth Vader...my absolute favorite character in scifi. Until we found out what a whiny little bitch he actually was.

Although, I'm sure I don't have to worry about that with Joss.

I don't doubt that there are infinite possible storylines in the mighty brain of Joss within the 'verse. My fear is not that he couldn't, it's that he won't....

For us to get more Serenity depends on both love and money. But in this wicked world, mostly it is money. The more copies sold of The Shepherd's Tale, the sooner Zack Whedon & Joss write that next story, whatever it is about.
There is probably a secret formula that goes something like this: Sell 250,000 copies of Shepherd's Tale in 9 months and the wait for the next story will be only a year. Sell only 125,000 copies in 9 months and the wait is longer -- 2 years for the next story. Sell only 60,000 and wait 3 years for the next story. It seems crass and vulgar, even Jaynesque, but that's how the entertainment industry works -- love makes it possible but money makes it happen faster.

Wow, well done, it has the same feel alright, and that's refreshing as heck. Should be a lot of fun.
