I finally got to see this movie over the weekend (rented it from Netflix) and all I can say is Wow!

I knew it was good but I was not expecting that. I was so stunned and inspired, that I watched the special features afterward. I really admire the director for the way in which he shot this film. It really paid homage to the fallen heroes.

I know it's been out quite a while, but I finally got around to watching and thought to share with you guys.
If you haven't seen it for whatever reason, please give a look.

You know, it's funny, even though I knew how it ends I still found myself rooting for these guys to pull through. (as an aside "rooting" in America means "cheering" or "in favor" of our heroes. I know that down under it has a different meaning).

I definitely know what you mean!
And yeah, 'rooting' here can mean both though, don't you worry!

I rememeber my sister, everytime she watches Titanic, wishes the whole time through that for some reason, they'll miss the iceberg this time and everyone'll have a happy ending.

I think the thing I was most impressed by, since the director has done a lot before, was the actors. All unknowns, yet they were all terrific and completely made the story believable.

I doubt anyone who fell for the fiction of U93 is mentally capable of comprehending the horror of RW polyticks (many bloodsucking creatures). It's a psychological block that would require a straight jacket and massive dose of meds to decontrol, perhaps electroshock. Yeah, I noticed a couple of character actors in there, and yes they did a great job (along with the director). The documentary style in which it was shot was a clever move on the part of the director.

Many people are called heroes, while doing their jobs. As Marines, we were called heroes at times, whether doing heroic deeds or not. Police, firefighters, EMTs, doctors, may be doing heroic deeds, but they have a union negotiating how those heroic deeds are dispensed. Astronauts, doing a risky job they've spent their lives volunteering for?

That french guy who jumped into New York waters to save the baby girl? While on vacation? Yes, heroic, and not paid to do it.

Flight 93 has regular everyday guys, flyers, businessmen. No trained counter-terrorist experts, special forces, emergency negotiators. The flight attendant was already murdered in front of them, to detail that the hijackers were serious. Pilots are dead.
They learn of what their fate most likely is, yet the human tendancy is to hope for what might become, hold out hope that their worse fears would not come to fruition, they would land safely eventually.
If they attempt to take over control of the craft, even if they are successful, they absolutely know that not all of them will survive, in fact most will perish in the attempt to rush the cockpit. To do so means they must forfeit the possibility of ever landing alive - even if the remaining passengers do. They don't have weapons, merely greater numbers, and no training like their opposition.
To forfeit your life for the POSSIBILITY that you might save hundreds or thousands of others you have never known or met, that was their choice.
To me, they speak Heroes volumes louder than any other contemporary example. Every single one of them should have a school building named after them, at the minimum. Unexpected heroism, and unselfishness in the face of doom, demonstrating the sort of American character and resolve which should make all Americans proud.
