hey everyone i know i'm new here but i'd like to ask a favor.
For my university course this year we have to design a board game and were given the theme of Firefly, this game will not go into production though it will stay inside the university.
The thing is i need to know what kind of contraints the audience brings to the game and you guys are my target audience :)
Just a few questions to start with, i may ask more later.
Can you let me know your age? (anyway to make a poll on this forum?) as this lets me know the average age of the players that might play the game
oh and your sex, male or female?
Now when it comes to the game is there a specific time you would like it to last, for example less than an hour, an hour or perhaps longer or would you begin to get bored?
When it comes to needing skill or having luck during the game, what kind of balance between the two would you like? i personally prefer abit of skill as its more interesting but usually abit of luck cant be avoided.
For player interaction, what kind of level would you prefer, for example competitive or collaborative? (Player) Vs (Player) or (Player + Player) Vs (System) or perhaps (Player + Player) Vs (Player + Player)
How about the games complexity, for example do you prefer light games or games which take alot of though.
When it comes to the Rules of the game would you prefer the rule set to be short and brief or do you enjoy interacting with the rule book?
Thats all for now (phew lol) apologies for the massive first post
I hope you can give me some feedback anything will help.
Thanks
Craig

Ages are preteens to 70's, bunch in the 30's and 40's.
Seems fairly even male to female.
Shouldn't be too short, many here like to be involved. At least an hour.
More skill, but outside froces will be mostly luck - reavers, Alliance, cons, thieves.
collaborate among friends (browncoats) with more interaction, compete against the rest.
More complex. Most games can be light, but browncoats have already delved into the verse, so more complexity would seem preferred.

thanks thats muchly appreciated
i think (from reading my notes) the game is to be aimed at 16+ audience
our group is still to think of an actual game style, (war game or perhaps a game where you try to bluff an steal cargo from each other) so not sure if other teams could play as alliance or reavers (not sure how that'd work though)
I like the idea of having enough interaction between players as I feel thats what makes board games exciting
thanks again for the information any more is greatly appreciated

Alliance or Reavers should be the chance part - bad luck stuff.
Other cons working against your goals might be another team.
