All I can say is...whoah.
Lackluster releases like Westworld & Logan's Run now look like standard quality DVD thanks to LCD & upconvert! Although the miniature of the domed city looks a little more toy-like...
Silent Running suddenly seems more real- the grass IS greener!
The canyons of Tatooine have MOSS ON THE ROCKS!!!
I saw Leon bumbling down the hallway outside Holden's office!!! Never even saw that in the movies!!
The synthetic proteins & minerals really DO look like runny snot!!
Fantastic Voyage holds up INCREDIBLY well, apart from visible wirework on the actors in places. Amazing for such an old film.
Terminator 2... well, let me just say that Sarah Connor is CLEARLY wearing no bra.
Sadly, Outland still looks like gos-se; that is the worst widescreen transfer ever.
I can't wait to watch Robocop & Aliens this way!!
Anyone got classics they've seen and been amazed by in HD?

Chris thanks, but I have nothing to offer in a discussion of High Def.
I have the regular cable signal from Dish Network going into 2 TV's....
65" Mitsubishi projection - Living Room
50" Sony LCD projection - Bedroom
I love both of them, but from a videophile's perspective they would not be deemed as very worthy. They're both big enough for me to see :
Actor/actresses' yellow teeth and facial imperfections.
Stunt doubles I never noticed before on Star Trek & Buck Rogers (I thought Gil Gerard was a karate guy all these years)...really the stunt double "cuts" are pretty awful with the big screen.

Quote:That's THE biggest surprise for me on my new TV- I wanna smack 'em & say "You're gorram ACTORS, for ruttin' sake! Fork over the $300 bucks & get your teeth whitened!!!!"

Well I have something to say. It's better to burn out than....
Sorry got carried away there.
Is it just your TV that's new and HD or have you gone to Blu-ray?
HD rocks. I am so glad I updated at the end of last year.
I too am really looking forward to Alien and Aliens in HD although as I said in another thread I think Alien may suffer from a little too much grain, but we'll see. Hopefully towards the end of the year as this is the 30th anniversary.
My fave retro film in HD is Close Encounters. This was my fave film ever until a trilogy about little folk and a ring appeared. The movie still does it for me though.
The colour is the main thing I would say has been improved, they are just so vibrant. But also the detail in the mothership is far clearer than even DVD. So much more pops out at you.
Terminator 2. All I say is that it must have been cold when they filmed coz those babies are definitely standing to attention.
I have the first 6 Trek movies as well but can't find the time to watch them yet. Looking forward to seeing how they fair up.
EDIT: I forgot to add that I think The Thing holds up remarkably well. The outside ice scenes look fantastic plus the creature looks even grosser than before.
"I don't believe in suicide, but if you'd like to try it it might cheer me up to watch."

My fave retro film in HD is Close Encounters.

Glad to be of assistance.
Superman The Movie looks pretty good as well considering it's age.
Highlander. Such a great first film. Such crap sequels. What a waste of a fantastic story.

Give Highlander 2 another chance because Virginia Madsen deserves your love. Cerealously, it's not a bad flick, and there are some good spots in it. Personally, I love the laughing guys, Michael Ironside's a hoot, and of course Virginia's bountiful assets.

Jong, I tried, really I did, but aside from the arguing over who was shot more times, I just couldn't accept it- even the newest Director's version.
