This guy made a top ten list of movie origins he'd like to see (just like the new Wolverine movie) and a Serenity Origins: Mal makes the list at number 7.

Here's the link:

Personally, I'd love to see the Frozone movie.

Thats actually a really clever idea .. it means the whole cast wouldn't be needed (and tho that'd make us sad, we could handle it) and it gives us background info.

The Frozone one sounds ace too tho!!

A Frozone origins film does indeed sound pretty cool.

Mal would be very interesting. I always liked what little they revealed of him. Though I'm a bit torn, would more information be a good thing? Is part of the charm and interest about Mal his rather simple and unassuming origins? Farm boy turned soldier turned veteran, who's home is long destroyed. If they did it and tried to make it more interesting by adding Reavers and Agents and too much action/adventure then I'd rather not see it at all. If they kept it simple and just followed his life on the ranch and later enlistment in the Army then definitely. It'd only be good if they kept it simple.

A well made 10-15 part web-series, maybe?

Origins: River would be far more entertaining IMO. We could find out how much her parents knew. We'd get to see the tragic loss of the sweet dancing child turned crazy assassin. However, I guess with Summer getting older it would be much harder to do now. Still it could be good.

Also.. Nathan could easily(with a little makeup and/or CG) play himself in his 20's- late 40's... but who would play him prior to that? Any child actors with his wit and charm and possibly even an adolescent version of his handsome features?(I'm straight but even I see how damn attractive Nathan is) It can't be too hard. Hell... this needs it's own spin-off thread!

I liked most of the ideas but was truly interested in Mal, Marv, Frozone, Rohrshach, Morpheus, Bud White & Kill Bill.

(I guess that's most of them).

I think it could be unbelievably awesome if they did Mal and kept it simple, ending it at that scene from the pilot, where he stares at the ships descending onto Serenity Valley...

not a great ending for a film...but that'd be a down right haunting cut to black after watching the beginning of his life, only to see his world fall apart...especially since we know what happens next.

The others I'm interested in:
Morpheus, Marv, Frozone.

When's the comix version of that coming out? It was promised more than a year ago.

I was thinking the same thing... when is "A Shepherd's Tale" coming out? Joss kind of dropped the ball on this one, I'm afraid.

Great call, Big R.............I'm with you on the final shot.

unbelievably awesome if they did Mal and kept it simple, ending it at that scene from the pilot, where he stares at the ships descending onto Serenity Valley...

How about this for an opening shot - Mal talking with Saffron about his life on Shadow leading into his story (a la OMR).

that'd be a down right haunting cut to black after watching the beginning of his life, only to see his world fall apart...especially since we know what happens next.

Azentropy......thanks for reminding me about our BDH Shepard Book. Definitely should be on the list.

That was the FIRST thing that popped into my head when I read the original thread!

We mostly know Mal's story, give or take a bit. We know almost nothing of Derrial Book, though - and there's so many tantalizing hints of what we SHOULD know! Plus, you don't really need Ron Glass, except maybe at the end, when we see him coming out of the seminary and reborn back into the 'verse...

I think I'd like it more if it were Ron Glass though, he really made the character his own, and from the brief glimpse of his 'past' we get from Objects in Space, I can't help but think I'd LOVE to see what he does with a Book Origins film.

Can you imagine Ron Glass doing fight scenes or something, or being an assassin? OR SOMETHING!? OMG! JUST THE THOUGHT OF IT ALL!
