Tim Burton's 2001 run gets only 5.5 out of 10 rating at imdb.com - and yet it grossed:

Domestic: $180,011,740
+ Foreign: $182,200,000
= Worldwide: $362,211,740

That's pretty good mathematics if you run a studio.

Not saying it will happen, but it is *possible* to create a good Ape prequel - let's not be completely dismissive just yet. More scifi is good for FIrefly.

The only danger is that, as with fantasy, in sci-fi, if someone loses money, it hurts the industry.

I think that 3009 would be more interesting. I'd like to see a future in which humanity reaches a level of stupidity where it gets passed by apes. While I would find this more entertaining than the genetic engineering angle, it's unlikely, because the time frame is too short. Expect genetic engineering. I suppose, it's technically possible to crossbreed humans and apes, but ape-rape isn't suitable for primetime.

OMG! Just rewatched the original POTA with Charlton Heston last night. In BLU-RAY.

Maybe if they could resurrect Rod Serling to do the script the prequel would be half way watchable.

POTA the Prequel?

I'd rather have a Serenity 2.

Imagine they had, what?, five POTA, having 5 Serenitys. Oh, Sci-Fi Gods can you grant us our ultimate wish and give us our BDS!!!!

I was thinking just today, we have Bride Wars, why can't we have our BDS? If only Universal would take the money they would waste making such drecks as Bride Wars, Made of Honor and remaking such classics as POTA and just put it into one movie - Serenity 2 (or go the route of LOTR and film Parts 2 & 3 in one fell swoop).

Thats not asking too much, is it?

Well, Made of Honor, like it or not, made two and a half times what Serenity made, on almost the exact same budget. Bride Wars will very likely make more, as well.

And even a bad POTA remake made over 10 times the return on Serenity

As for this (possible) new POTA movie, it's not really a prequel, per se. Certainly not to the Burton remake. It's a remake of the original Conquest, but would serve as the starting point for a new series. So, it's more a re-boot (ala Batman Begins or Casino Royale) than a prequel.
