And it's a great excuse for "Now we can't go 'back' to the Moon."

Is there some reason we're not using SeaLaunch to get people into orbit as needed?

No, not for the Moon, but for orbit, to get to the ISS in the absence of the shuttle.
Some of the payloads they put up there are heavier than the space capsules we used to pop up into orbit in the 60's.

We're clearly talking about different things. I'm talking about ferrying human beings to orbit without the shuttles and without buying Russian ferry boat tickets.
6,000 kg is plenty enough to get a man to the ISS.

Anyway the Gemini Capsule that put the first American into space weighed 3,133kg, the Apollo command module alone was 5,809 kg, and that didn't include rocket motors, propellant or life support systems (which were all carried by the service module which weighed 24,523kg) so 6000kg isn't all that much really. Taking Apollo as the example, 6000kg will get three people into orbit, which is less than crew of the spaceshuttle alone.
