FIREFLY on Blu-Ray Nov 11th.

Hey All

Well, TVshowsonDVD.com has the official announcement at hand. FIREFLY: THE COMPLETE SERIES, will be released on Blu-Ray on November 11th. Below is the link to the article.

In comparison to the previous set, the only new features on there are two extra commentary tracks (for "Our Mrs. Reynolds" and "Ariel") and a Cast Reunion featurette.

The only thing that ticks me off though is the insanely high price. $120 BUCKS CANADIAN? That's a bit steep, don't cha think? I can pick up the regular DVD for like 20 bucks. I'm a big of a Blu-Ray enthusiast, but come on.

Anyways, hope you guys are happy. In know personally, I'm psyched about this, along with the Blu's for DR. STRANGELOVE and the entire PLANET OF THE APES franchise. I'm still ticked at the price for FIREFLY, as well as the fact that SPEED RACER will be released on a crappy BD-25 disc and a regular 5.1 surround sound track. But all in all, still a good week for Blu-Rays.

The picture quality better be worlds better than the standard dvd, because I'm getting it.

I'm having trouble with the price as well. I think they want to take advantage of any fanatics that just have to have it right away. I'm guessing they'll drop the price right after that. I just have to ask myself whether I'm one of those fanatics. :-)

Is that price right it seems alot for a dvd blu-ray or no blu-ray, im in england so that would be around £60. The firefly box set here is selling for around £13 it seems one heck of a jump, ill have to look around on the web and see if i can see it priced up at a decent price.

Good old Fox - milking us for what it's worth.

The thing is I wouldn't mind if there was even a chance that high sales would reignite the calls for a new series.

But that ain't the case and all this is is a massive cash-in. A cash-in with tasty morsels such as new commentaries, but still a cash-in.

Honestly, if the only thing on there that's new are commentaries, people will probably just download the tracks themselves (like how they get fan commentaries). And the Reunion is great too--but, Do they think we're stupid? I love Firefly to death and have bought loads of Firefly/Serenity merch. because it was well worth the money (plus, they're just shiny)...but this? Tsk. What are they, George Lucas?

What's the typical price for a series Blu-Ray disc?

Now that I think about it, TV Blu-Rays are a little more expensive than regular TV DVD sets. THE SOPRANOS Blu-Ryas are well over 100 bucks. And with the wave of TV Blu-Ryas out soon, I think it would be par for the course.

I'm still planning on getting them since I'm in the process of updating my entire DVD library with Blu-Rays.

The first season of The Sarah Connor Chronicles is less than $30. It's from Fox too. I just don't get why Firefly costs so much more.

Well, the US MSRP on Firefly is 89.99. It's 39.99 for Sarah Connor. $27.95 is Amazon's sale price, their sale price for Firefly is 62.95. SCC is only 9 episodes. Firefly is 15. A bit higher per episode, but not grossly.

And if there's any show worth a slightly higher price...

But I'm just thinking of all the Firefly goodies that could be purchased for $60... but... yeah maybe someday, maybe someday when i have a blueray player lol. but I think DVD will be around longer than VHS was, DVD can fit into your computer and thus is a child of the computer revolution in a way that VHS wasnt as much. So I think i'll sit on my DVDs (not literally) for awhile longer.

Minor correction. SCC is by Warner, not by Fox.

DVDs are usually released by the studio (through a distributor) that made the show, not the network that aired it. That's why when you buy the DVDs for Buffy and Angel you are buying from 20th Century Fox Television not the WB or UPN. Also when you buy Firefly you are buying from 20th Century Fox Television, not the FOX network.

i think the price equates to about £40 in english money not too much i,ll definetly buy it just hope its released in the uk in time for christmas then i can just get it bought for me as a present so technically free .all the best miike

I wouldn't get too worried about the price. I recall when the Blu-Ray format for Season 3 of Lost was announced it had a projected list price of $125. The actual MSRP ended up around $98 and I was able to pick it up eventually for $60.

Regardless what they put the MSRP they will have to price it comparably or it won't move.

... I'm in.

Amazon.com(US)'s sale price has yet to be set. They're listing it at US$62.95, but it may be lower by release date (it will not be higher). I've pre-ordered one set, which should be delivered to me, in the USA, betwixt Nov 21 & Dec 1 (maybe in time for US Thanksgiving).

I'm sad that there are but two more commentaries -- Jewel Staite recorded one -- but happily looking forward to the cast reunion.

Neither do I, nor an HDTV. But when I do, the first thing that's going on will be Firefly.

Did you do it recently? I pre-ordered months ago and, due to the late delivery date, just now had to confirm the order. If I did not confirm by Nov 17 that I still wanted it, my order would be canceled.

Yeah, the price is a tad steep, but honestly, I plan on buying it anyways. It's well worth it.
