Nope , it ain't tampering...

It's ' art restoration '. I like it...

I Love it...I want some more of it...

It's giving ' new life ' to an old masterpiece...

One of the niggles with Classic Trek was all the planets looked too similar , 'cause the old
' opticals ' tended to be re-used over and over again...

Same with the ship exteriors...I like the new
' beauty shots ' of the good ship ENTERPRISE!

There are some new digital mattes that have enhanced exterior shots of architecture on some planetary surfaces , too .

One thing that has taken me out-of-story a few times is some lighting that now seems a little oddly-colored versus the 'original' prints...I'm still deciding if the amped-up color of some lighting is just truer to the original stock , or it's boosted for ' creative ' reasons...

Thanks to the Okudas for their dedicated work and research !

A thing of beauty is a joy forever...

Amen, brother. I see you are of the body, that is good .
I also love the restorative work done on the director's cut of STTMP.

I've only seen clips, but it looked pretty respectfully done and minimalist compared with "remastered" versions of certain other major SF franchises. No physically inexplicable annular shock-waves racing out from explosions, I hope?

What would be a pity, though, is if the pioneering work of the original FX artists became lost and forgotten - Star Trek is a pretty important milestone in the history of the medium.

The original versions will be available; I'll always respect their expertise given the resources.
To peeps like myself that grew up on TOS, it will always be in in my mind- to new fans, the distraction of dated FX will not detract from the EXCELLENT writing of the series, IMO.

BluRay...hmmph- that's too modern for me, I like my stone age DVD's.

Can someone provide a few examples of description of the new effects?
