Heath Leadger is gone ......what a waste, he was a brilliant actor. Already there is buzz that he is in line for an Oscar nomination for for role as the Joker in the latest Batman flick, are the critics that thrilled with his preformance, or is this just a ploy to sell this movie? I hope that he is nominated, but will it be just to get people to watch the Oscar Awards? I hope they do'nt use his death to sell movie tickets and then get us to watch a lame awards show. This is his last role, I hope he is remembered as a great actor, not as the the actor who's death add'ed $ to the box office.

I have yet to read a bad critical review for the movie. On yahoo the users give it an A and the critics give it an A- which is, I think, the closest I've ever seen them come to agreement, and certainly the highest critical grade I've seen on there for a 'blockbuster.'
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I will in very short order. No one, anywhere I've seen, has anything but glowing reviews for the movie in general and Heath Ledger in particular. It's great to see this franchise finally gain the depth of characters who deserve it, and I can't wait to see it.

You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one.

Seriously, I agree 100%. I truly hope that this isn't just a ploy (the Oscar talk) to sell tickets. I was not a huge fan, but I really enjoyed his work.
Although I did see a snippet of Michael Caine praising his work on the film and echoing the sentiments (and buzz) of Oscar worthy performance.
Also Christian Bale and Aaron Eckhart made similar sounding comments about their co-star.

But I believe there was buzz far before his untimely death regarding his perf and for the movie in general. I'm a Batman fan (since I was 10) and was planning on seeing this latest version, so I'm definitely going to see it soon. AS far as I can tell I believe Warner has steered clear of using his death to boost sales. At the premiere in NY Heath's family and close friends entered the theatre through a side entrance without fanfare. They also had a black carpet instead of the usual red (from what I read somewhere it was done in his memory).

But my heart goes out to his little girl, who lost her daddy.

I saw the mvie this morning (The Dark Night @ 9:30 am, diehards we are)

Heath DESERVES a nomination.

The caliber of his acting in this movie surpasses everything else I've seen him in. The Joker isn't the campy character that Jack brought to life the first time around, this is a heavily layered, unpredictable, confident, souless character that is amazing and startling. The entire movie was brilliant, action packed yet touching sincerely on the arguments of good and evil and the definition of heroism, cinematography was breathtaking, and the cast was steller all the way around, the ending gritty and realistic, but Ledger brought the film to another level and I can see why he had problems coping after portraying him.

(by the way, DO NOT take small children to this. There were people that took kids from five younger to our showing, and I as a grown adult who has no problems with violence and action was a little taken back by the implied graphic-ness of the film. It's very intense, but worth it all the way)

This film goes back to Batmans "Detective Comics" roots, the campy Batman of the 60's & 90's is gone.

I stared in awe at The Jokers "magic trick".

But yeah, Heath deserves a nomination, at least.

FYI, The Dark Knight made $155.34 million dollars it's 1st weekend in the U.S., around $40 million over seas.

Totally agree. This movie was fantastic.
I really hope he AT LEAST gets nominated, anything less would be an insult to the fine performance. Although, you just know that a heap of people will be complaining that he 'only got nominated/won because he died," but that's just not true, his acting was some of the best I've seen.

Also, if people aren't aware, The Joker was Ledger's last FULLY COMPLETED role, but he was in the middle of filming Terry Gilliam's new flick, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, and his performance in that has been kept, as Gilliam found a way to complete the film without Heath, so that his work could be seen.

I'm gearing up to go see it tomorrow (Fri) so I'll let you know what's up.

I do believe that Nolan (the director) got it right.
What I mean is not revisiting the "campy" Batman but treating it as it should be treated with a seriousness and a realism (as far as you can expect from a non-superhero comic book character) that has not be seen before.

I remember reading the comic books as a kid and thinking that the Batman was a really cool and smart crimefighter. It does my heart good to see that someone else in this world thinks of him in the same way. This should be good.

If you love the movies, go see the Dark Knight.
Seriously, it is that good. For once, the critics and the "buzz" were not exaggerating (which tends to send up "Uh, Oh" signals for me).

I do not want to spoil it for you. Trust me on this one. And Heath Ledger's perf as the Joker is definitely Oscar worthy. Everyone gives solid perfs and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent well....just go and plunk down your 12 bucks and see it in the theatre. Trust me guys you will not be disappointed. Later we'll dish.
