Question about avatars...

This is very new to me so pardon my questions.
Where can I get free avatars of Mal to use on the different sites I belong to? This is something I've wanted for a while and thought I would ask here. I don't want to do something wrong, but I like avatars and banners and don't know where to look for them. I don't know how to make them, either, I don't think!

Avatars really aren't that hard to make, actually. If you go to http://www.still-flying.net and peruse the screencaps for an image you like, all you have to do is download it, open it in Photoshop, do a little cropping and resizing and then alter it however you like. Mind you, some folk are very, very adept Photoshop users and know all the tricks and special effects. Me, I just keep it simple - crop, resize, add a little snarky text such as these: http://userpic.livejournal.com/69157208/5947294 or http://userpic.livejournal.com/69396594/5947294 .

If you still feel iffy about making your own, still-flying.net does have a few avatars. I don't know if browncoats.serenitymovie.com is still online, but you might check it out....or best of all, if you belong to LiveJournal, just go to the 'ff_icons' community and have at it. ;) Talk about the mother lode!

BTW, I went to my profile on this site and saw where I can get one, I did that and let's see if it works.

I just looked at my post...it didn't work. I clicked Mal's picture and clicked update my profile, but nothing.
I'm challenged on these things!

What you do, to get avatars on this site, if you don't already know, is you find the link to the image (photobucket is your friend!!), put it in your tagline when you edit your profile, make sure you click the "none" bubble for the avatar, click edit, and you should be good to go. If it doesn't work right away, try going to your profile, click edit, click the okay button, and keep doing that untill it works.
