I owe you a couple of noms for Dark Shadows, I believe. That's easy, as I never missed it as a kid. Even grew Quentin Collin sideburns as a young man (God, I looked stupid. LOLOLOL)

Anyway, I have (and still am) rounding up troops at my site to help you guys with this. Besides that I have some "special tools" with which I might be able to get you a few thousand votes every night. I'll see what I can get going with that, but last year we put Surface at #3 after a month of intense voting on a similar site.

No promises, except that I will give it my best effort.

Thanks, Jstn... My wife and I were pretty bummed with how they axed Surface, too. Didja check out Universal HD's Surface forum?

Regarding Dark Shadows, thank you for any help you can give; since you can vote for as many shows as you like in the Top 40, that shouldn't create any conflicts for you, 'cause DS has been out of the Noms for several weeks, with much credit going to the generosity (hopefully ongoing) of my Browncoat brothers and sisters.

As for "special tools," please, for the love of Joss, let's keep this on the straight and narrow. All automated voters do is annoy the administrator (who is an old hand at catching them), and, make the ones who benefited from them look bad.

Any human-generated help would be greatly appreciated, though!

Jstn Take a look at the charts at the top of the page. Between October & November you'll see a spot where everyone's votes dropped to 0 (zero).
That was caused by a small group of people who were trying to use a vote-bot. The vote site admin (Rich) caught them, and took the site down while he traced back through data to see where it started (once he knew what to look for). It very nearly killed the site.
I'm strongly encouraging you not to try it. If you try anyway, please don't include Firefly. We really don't want to burn with you.
The show that ran the last bot-scam has since lost most of it's support, and is free falling towards obscurity on the vote board.

To save you some time:
Rich monitors the ip of all voting machines. All votes from the same subnet mask are discarded. None of them count. He has many other tricks as well.

The number in parenthesis () after the name of a show is the current position in the Top10.

The order that the shows are listed is their projected final standing based on their average weekly votes (given sufficient time (some shows will need more time than others to achieve their potential)).

I read all your comments and respect your wishes for a clean vote. I'm not big on "cheating" but I figured (not knowing the history) that others would be doing that, so we needed to "keep up" (or "keep down", as the ethical case might be)

Not that it matters as my special tool (not a votebot) is ineffective on this site.

You didn't mention it but I'm guessing that Xena fans were the problem you had with cheating earlier. They were the ones who beat Lost and Surface after a month last year, so we knew what they were up to (which was our motivation for getting involved in the "shady side" actually)

But if nobody is allowed to cheat then that's fine with us. Congrats to their site administrator for curing an internetwide problem.

We can do this the old fashioned way and come out looking shiny. LOLOL

I put in 1 nom for Dark Shadows this AM, and will do another shortly as promised.

Freelancer - Surface was another quality show that was killed by the morons at NBC two years ago. It involved sea monsters, gov't conspiracies, and tsunamis. LOLOL

I know it sounds like a mess, but it worked really well, as several running themes blended together throughout the season. I sugest looking it up on IMDb or TV.com (where I originated the Project Nim campaign to save the show) for more info. Or better yet drop by our site and dp a LOT of reading. LOLOLOL

I am more than a little suspicious about this "poll" After a few more votes, that I KNOW of, this evening Surface is still not showing more than the 359 it was earlier. Is there a cut off time? Do we waste our votes after that? Something ain't right in the 'verse.

Furthermore, how the heck did Hercules get 56,000 votes today? I jst don't believe it. Where is this website with 1000's of Herc fans (yes, I liked the show but that site doesn't exist)

Ermmm... Been off the comp all day; the missus was home sick, so, she used the time to finish watching Blood Ties online. She did her part on the hourly vote, too.

Well, Rich announced the date of the new site transition. I'll be interested to see if we end up with three web portals for the new site, like we currently have (per the announcement, the indication is that there will be 2). I like double-redundant backups.

Heyya, Jstn! Thanks for the Dark Shadows votes (you are clicking the little Top 40 box, yes?); I haven't forgotten Surface, either (just gave ya another Nom), and, thanks much for your help, especially if you can get the Surface fans to lend a hand to Firefly (and, to DS =^[.]~=).

As for the big vote bot scandal, the perps were some Lexx voters. Although it turned out that their bot (which they were discovered discussing on their forum) didn't actually work, because they made a version which was intended to vote for Lexx AND Firefly, as well as Roswell, we stood to catch a loss on votes it might have cast, not to mention tarring us, all unknown, with the Brush of Infamy. That's related to the Chain of Command, but, not so shiny.

Rich's investigations have turned up other bots, though, and, the patterns of their regular votes are very easy for him to catch. So, while he hasn't cured internet poll cheating, Rich has come up with an effective treatment for that chronic condition.

Sorry to hear about your sick relation, Sister. However, I hope you will be able to enjoy some of your sabbatical.

Finally, regarding voting efficiency for those of us whose internal clocks aren't Swiss-made, you can download FlyVote by FlyVote. It's a timed program to remind you when it's time to vote: http://usbmicro.com/misc . In the aftermath of some of Rich's anti-cheat safeguards, it no longer acts as a direct voting interface, but, it's still a useful timer and voting record-keeper. Or, do what I do, and, buy a Timex travel alarm clock, under $6US at WalMart, which you can set forward each hour after you vote, and, tuck into a pocket, in case you have to walk away from your computer.

Every single vote is counted, 24/7. The daily votes stop being counted for the previous day at between 6 and 6:30am ET, rolling over to the new day's votes immediately. The previous vote totals are then collated (including manual inspection of the spreadsheets for suspicious trends), and, finally, posted every morning at between 8 and 9am ET. They are aggregated totals, so, Herc has been working several years to reach 56k votes.

I still wouldn't vote for them, though.

(We couldn't get tvvote.com because COMCAST is sitting on it - they don't use it, but they got it first and they're too big to fight for it.)

Then we waited a year to see if you guys would still be here. You are, so TV_Vote gets the new URL tvvote.tv as of Sunday.

Our new web host for http://www.tvvote.tv also offers a couple of features we will try out - they have a board / forum thingie and also a little poll deal that we could use to bring back our Instant Polls. Plus we get a whole lot of extra space to work with on their server - enough to put up a picture gallery / library of our Flash banners or even stream classic TV episodes maybe, who knows?

How the change impacts flyvote:
Rich indicated that there will be a permanent link on the current site that points to the new site. That way when flyvote pops up, you simply click the link, vote, & hide for another hour.

'Course if FlyVote wanted to really hook us up, and maybe someone mailed him cookies or somesuch (FlyVote cookie campaign anyone?), he would change where flyvote is directed to.

I haven't seen FlyVote around in a few months though, perhaps he's lurking?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'm not much of a TV watcher, but it's amusing me to see shows going into re-runs & then be replaced by go-se.

Now if I were a member of the guild...
I'd try to arrange to have the contract expire just in time to halt production of season premieres/finales/sweeps. But that's me. As it is, I'm sure that the strike is becoming increasingly painful.
