Stardust - Anyone else find it disapointing ?

Might have been me, but it seemed slow. Plodding. The acting was fine, and I enjoyed most of the visual stuff...it just dragged on in between highlights.

For a PG-13 family film that was pointed at a younger crowd, I think it was outstanding. Which spots did you think were slow?
A couple of scenes could have been shortened by a few seconds, but overall we (family & I) think it's an oustanding example of the 'coming of age' genre.

Murder, swordplay, disappointment, hope, love, honor, friendship, kingdoms lost & recovered, magic...
All that's missing are mythical monsters!

I too was not just disappointed but pretty angry. Like you said most of the acting was fine and in one or two cases pretty good. The movie did drag in points which wouldn't have been bad if they had stuck to the actual story. Biggest flaw with this movie is how they completely dumbed it down so the general masses could get it. Sure don't want your children getting the message of forgiveness and morality. Or heaven forbid the whole greed and beauty will be your downfall angle. I know, I know, I've said before movies are completely different forms of media... still they changed stuff that just made no sense at all and most of it was stupid little trivial things they turned into idiot gross out or laugh gags.

My advice, never watch this movie. There were many more family films out last year that keep their intended message, Bridge to Terabithia, The Last Mimzy.. not to mention the fact these films are more suited to younger audiences than Stardust.

I've never been the first person out of a film and I've never "accidentally" slammed the door either. Not until I saw this movie anyway. If it hadn't been for the fact the Theater Staff is my favorite of all the theaters in town I would have asked for my money back. Would have been the first time for that too.

I wasn't disappointed at all, probably because I didn't expect anything when I went to see it.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was a fun film. And any film with a camp pirate is ok by me

OH I forgot about the pirate... that was the only point in the entire movie I was able to enjoy it enough to crack a smile. Ofcourse it could have been a grimace I'm still not sure. I just can't help but see Robby De Niro's career spinning in the bowl though. Either way I went back to hating it pretty soon afterwards.

I read the graphic novel after seeing the movie and MAN they did not do Neil Gaiman's book justice...
it would have been a far far better film if they had kept with his more surprising unique story...
instead they made it kind of dull and lifeless.

So yeah, disappointing.... but I didn't hate it or anything

Any way you feel about it go and read the book. It's a great unconventional fairy tale with something for everyone. Not exactly for the little ones considering the fairly explicit sex scene it pretty much starts off with. This book is a fairy tale for older folks ... 13+ I'd say.

It was excellent for an all-out fantasy flick!! Reminded of Princess Bride, but more with the love-thing. Good performances all around. I can understand being disappointed when compared to the graphic novel, but to dislike it on it's own just means you're a poopy-head with a heart of stone, well, IMO anyway.

Ok first off what graphic novel??? A graphic novel is a comic book with a more lengthy story and character development. I wasn't aware they made a comic book version of Stardust. Anyway yes I can see the similarities to The Princess Bride. The biggest difference being that movie was actually funny. Oh and it had talented actors that actually took it seriously yet still had fun.

Edit: Again sorry for bashing this movie I've never actually hated a movie before. If you like it then please enjoy it. I've met people who hate Firefly and Eureka and even Chuck(As unbelievable as it is to even imagine hating those three shows it's true) and so I say... To each his/her own. .... I still hate the movie though.
