Well, now that the flylog has been up for a while, I thought it would be fun to discuss it.

Some questions:

1. Why do I feel guilty when my random, unimportant thought for the day bumps someone's blood and sweat fanfic off the home page?

2. Why do people post blogs?

3. Should there be a "times read" on the page of my blog?

4. Is having the ability to respond to another person's flylog a stupid idea?

5. Is this post stupid?

I've really enjoyed Haken's new Flylog and I like reading other people's posts (OPP). I feel like I'm peeking into the bedroom window of their minds while they undress.

Sometimes I wish I could respond to someone else's flylog, especially when they raise a question - but there's no way to answer.

But that would be like climbing through the bedroom window, when you are only supposed to be peeking from outside.

Or would it?

I would like to have people to be able to respomd to my flylogs, I know that.

Let's see, answers...

1) You would most likely bs displeased if someone knocked off you're fanfic.

2) Usually, I'm bored or just need to talk.

3) I don't care how many people read mine. I don't think many though...

4) No, it's a wonderful idea. (See top of my post)

5) Not really, but I may be crazy.

That's all, keep flyin'!

One of the reasons I started this thread is because Teela B was blog-pondering about what to call Star Wars fans. After all, FF fans are Browncoats, and Star Trek fans are Trekkies, etc....

I thought that was a good question and I wanted to answer her.

I believe they are simply Star Wars fans.

And here are my answers:

1. Why do I feel guilty when my random, unimportant thought for the day bumps someone's blood and sweat fanfic off the home page?

I'm working on separating the two so that Blue Sun Room stuff don't get bumped off.

2. Why do people post blogs?

Some of us are exhibitionist. Some of us are voyeurs. Either way, the blogs make us feel good.

3. Should there be a "times read" on the page of my blog?

Yeah, working on that. Sometimes we just need to know.

4. Is having the ability to respond to another person's flylog a stupid idea?

No. I wanted to respond to yours, cuz I got some stories of my own to tell from my wilder days.

5. Is this post stupid?

Nah. Browncoats aren't the stupid type.

And I'm working on improving the Flylog. It's just that things are moving slow with the holidays and the lack of a development system. I have lots of idea, but just not enough time to implement it all.

Thanks for answering so quickly, Haken. You are always on top of things. And always so courteous, and never rude or crazy. How come not once? NOT ONCE! You haven't gotten drunk and typed crazy shit on your site and then regretted it. Yet you tolerate a high level of Browncoat shenanigans.

I know nothing about Blogs and the rules of Blogs, but I have come to learn there are rules in Fandom. I figure anyone who combines Fandom and Blogdom is walking a mighty fine line.

I need guidance. That's why I like to ask questions.

Since I'm rambling, I might as well continue.

I think it would be great if Haken continues to provide the current services to all Browncoats on FFF. Yeah, sure, throw in a 2-way private/public flylog for members, even a mail server for our user accounts. Or how about pop email? Succatash@fireflyfans.net would be great.

I'd love to pay for these features. The Honor System might work, but I wouldn't be opposed at all to the idea of paying for some kind of "Full-service" member account for such special features.

Nothing mandatory, nothing elitist, but perhaps just a bonus gift for people who donate to FFF in the right way.

Also, please, throw in a chatroom for paid Browncoats Members but please hire new people to be in charge of kicking members out who suck.

Thanks

Perhaps not pop/smtp, but webmail is a possibility in the future. Providing e-mail is problematic in that it requires large amount of disk space to handle all the incoming emails for a large number of users. To compound the problem, I'll have to deal with the large volume of spam that'll inevitably flood everyone's mailboxes. But we'll see how things go in 2004.

I actually have my own IRC server, but just haven't had the time to set everything back up since the server upgrade. I'll try get it fixed before New Year. Once up, you'll be able to make your own channel and be the master of your domain.

I would like to pay for these excellent features. You are too kind, Haken, to give all this away for free.
