I've been talking to the folks at http://www.costumecraze.com/
and they specialize in licensed costumes. I've been told to check back next spring.

The insider scoop is that this company's warehouse and headquarters is outside Provo, Utah, not far from Salt Lake City.
Maniac has recently done temp work for this company, and the owner has announced that a "Sci Fi Western Cowboy" is coming soon. Not sure when either.

Thanks. Really cool, I think Mal's coat rocks.
Thanks again.

It's true, I did temp work for this Internet costume vendor. I know for a fact the owner loves Firefly. I've talked to him personally.
A "Space Cowboy" costume could likely appear on www.costumecraze.com, but no promises, I have no official information.

I do have to question whether Mal's coat is a western duster or in fact harkens back to Captain's coats, seen on pirates of an earlier era. Granted the color and general shape makes it look more like a duster, but the cut of the coat itself looks more piratical to me.
