F*x giving up rights

I've been thinkin' for a while 'bout what's gonna happen when F*x gives up the rights for Firefly. Will there be a big push from Browncoats and Joss to other networks to pick it up or will it be a straight to DVD thing? Also what is the chance of there being another movie now that Serenity won best Sci-fi movie (beating Star Wars!) O yeah and another thing. Does anybody know what is going on with the second comic series? I heard about it but haven't heard anything since then.

The bible can be pretty racy when it comes to plows.

Fox Broadcasting does not own the rights to anything except the episodes that were already made.
When Firefy was cancelled, Joss asked to shop the rights elsewhere. If they hadn't said yes, the BDM could never have been made.
All networks that were asked turned down the chance to make more episodes of Firefly.
The rights now are locked up in the movie business. The ball is in Universal's court to greenlight another movie.
There should be more comic news/a release date closer to summer.

Thanks it does. I just remembered hearing somewhere that F*x was refusing to give up the rights but also refusing to do more episodes so that was why I was confuzzled.

I think that's likely info from when the show was put on 'hiatus'. If they don't out and out cancel it, they retain the right to start it up again if they want, and they're greedy bastards and do that with a lot of shows, but they did out-and-out cancel Firefly, and gave back the rights when asked.
That's just a theory, though.
Also, 20th Century Fox productions has the rights to produce anything Firefly or Serenity. It's possible that they won't produce new episodes at this point because the rights are tied up in movies. A lot of people confuse the two companies.
This is just my layman's understanding. It's probably far more complicated than that, but that's what I've been able to piece together.
