A question of character

I am in the process of outlining what I expect to be a very long fic. I'm still trying to iron out a few kinks in the plot, mostly dealing with Inara characterization, but also Mal. I'm looking for a few good fic readers or writers who have insight into both characters. I'd like to shoot a few questions at whoever decides to participate and see if you think my where I'm taking my story is plausible.

Here's an idea of what my fic is about: It's Mal/Inara and it's going to have a very strong western theme to it. It's angsty. I mean, *really* angsty. I'm exploring Inara's past and how that past effects her relationship with Mal. It's going to cover many years. It follows the series, but then completely disregards the movie. ( What can I say? I love Wash and Book. I just don't want them to be dead. Besides, they are very useful characters... ;D )

Eep! Hard call on this - I'm all kinds of opinionated about these two characters, and love talking about them, but I'm a little hesitant... I'm working on a fic that does much the same as far as Inara's history and her relationship with Mal, and we shouldn't influence each other too much.

BTW, I totally don't mean this as in "write something else, I'm doing that!" Whatever! I'm totally interested in what you'll come up with, and what your take is. But it may be hard to get into into your vision when I'm stuck in my own, you know?

Drat. What to do? I guess I'll try to help in a somewhat limited manner...

I'm just so curious!

I do flatter myself in saying that I have some insight into Mal and Inara, them being my favorite characters... but I also understand that lots of people might have insight that differs from mine.

So, I'd like to offer my opinion, but I do promise not to be obsessive about what I consider The Right View. *g*

This is what I love about fanfic! You can write a hundred different scenarios about a character's past or future and they can all seem plausible. Indeed, there is no one way, no one past, no one future. I enjoy reading all these different takes. But don't worry, Mal4Prez, I won't take it personally if you decide not to participate. It's A-OK!

Sounds great to me. I know where the characters have been and I know where I want them to go. There's just a few questions I want to ask, get second opinions on.
